Hi,

I'm really pleased i've stumbled across this site, loads of good information, and what looks like a top forum.

Any advice or pointers on finding an S1 for £9000-11000 would be really appreciated.

Also, how practical would an S1 be as my only car, i don't reckon anything will put me off but i'd like to be prepared for any potential problems.

Thanks for looking, Matt

Unless you're moving wardrobes every day the Elise is very practical as a daily driver and much more fun than a most cars. It only really becomes less so if you put semi-slicks on it (they wear out quicker so costs rise) or have the engine fiddled with (and if that's done properly it needn't be an issue either).

At that budget I would look for a private sale as your money will go a lot further. Check out the classified section and buy one from an enthusiast owner.

I'm on my 3rd Elise having bought an early S1 in May and reckon there are some cracking cars out there at the moment at bargain prices.

If looking at a prospective purchase, take someone along who knows Elises or get an independent inspection.

Main thing to look out for is bodged crash repairs as it is very easy to write off the chassis if hit hard enough around the suspension areas.

FSH is a must if you think you are likely to sell on in the not too distant future. However, there are a lot of very knowledgable Elise owners who do there are own servicing so don't dismiss these if backed up with invoices for parts etc. These can often be the best maintained cars.

www.british-cars.co.uk is a very valuable source of info and is well worth registering on to give access to the archive for searching about what to look for etc.

For parts etc check out www.eliseparts.com (WARNING - you will become a lot poorer!!)

Good luck

Loads of good cars in this price, but a lot of bad ones too. www.elises.co.uk/ is a good reference site. If you can wait until next month my car will be for sale to make way for an Exige.

Good point. If you ever see V583FPA for sale (it's been on eBay at least once) don't touch it for that very reason.

Thanks for all the info, i'm moving from an mx5 to an elise and it's reassuring to find that your community/followers are just as helpful and informative, keep up the good work.

I'll probably still be interested in buying next month, (only just put the mx5 in the autotrader) so if you want to send on a few details/pictures/service history MATTRS (and any other people that might be interested in selling soon), i'll have a look and let you know,

cheers Matt

following a posting on the elise forum i might sell my S1 elise probably for the low £9k mark. i have used it as my sole car for a year and it has been fantastic but feel i need to get onto the property ladder! was thinking of keeping it stored off the road for 6 months but may aswell sell it. let me know if you are interested
