i have had my mk1 elise for 18 months now and have come to a painful decision. at the age of 25 I feel i need to get on the property ladder but would have to sell my car to do so. which would be the best idea: Car or Flat?

Regrettably, I'd say Flat. You can come back to cars, but the longer you leave it to get on the property ladder, the harder it will be.

apologies, despite the elise being the most fantastic car, I'd agree and say flat. Appreciating assett -v- depreciating assett.

After a year in the flat you'll be able to afford another Elise, as I did after a year of driving a Ford Probe

At 25 with the current market Id say bugger it and go for the car.

When you get a flat you want a house, trust me, I bought a flat and bought an Elise at the same time, similar predicament, Ive sold my flat and Elise recently and I'm buying a house, getting married, and getting something special for a car. The car has to wait until next year

house.

what do you want a silly elise for in the cold wet winter months ?

Put a silly offer in on a house. Wait for the prices to rise in the spring and remortgage/take a cheap loan to get an elise ready for the summer.

glad to be of service.

some might say a bit drastic......but I got married which brought in enough income to buy a house and keep the car.........

You wouldn't enjoy the Elise as you'd always be thinking what you 'should' have done... It's got to be the flat... Even at the ripe old age of 32, I still feel guilty owning the Elise - as if I should be paying more into a pension or something... Soon vanishes though when she's out and about the country roads!

Depends where you are in the country. I got my little car just before the house, as I knew it'd be a while before I could get a decent car afterwards.

I'm glad I got the car first, as there's no way I'd have been able to get one for the first year after I moved in. Now I have got used to the bills, and have started investing in a house - it may not have changed much in value, but I'm not loosing money, and I've started saving for a new Elise.

If it wasn't for the misses though, I was seriously contemplating buying just a garage, getting a Noble, and renting a cheap room with some students for a few years... Looking back, I'm glad I went for the house.

CAR! Houses are for losers. What's the point of owning a house when you're 70? Have fun now while you're not dead. Brrrrrrrrm!

OR save for a better car.

got to be a flat .... a few years down the line you will see the benifits. on the plus side make a wee bet of cash on property and you could purchase a brand spanking new elise

Flat every time. In a year your finances will have settled and you can buy another one.
