Lotus Sport Exige Romps to Victory at Sepang

so this quote:
"For 2004 champion of Eddie Lew, Farriz Fauzy and Super GT driver Hiroki Katoh, which competed in unmodified two-liter Honda Civic I-VTEC, it remained a successful participation especially in the overall promotions and development of motorsports in Malaysia."
is complete b0ll0cks then?
either way, an Elise with a 3L V6 pushing 400Bhp, weighing in at some 850Kg's, with a Hewland 6 speed, and chassis developed by Pilbeam is doing shite if a 2L Civic is only one lap down on it after 279 laps.
Hardly 'Romping'....

Sound pretty standard?

Funnily enough I was reading about last years race the other day. The secret to the Honda's success was it's ability to stay on track and only come in for the complusory stops every 75mins. In addition they invested in some refueling equip. that halfed the time for refuelling compared to other teams. Lastly the thing is obviously pretty handy on the track!

look, like I said, either way, the lotus has 50% bigger engine and probably simmilar 50% more power,
no way can you get a civic down to 850Kg's
the civic is not exactly an aero-dream or built out of ali/carbon fibre.
they are not even close, hence they were not in the same class....
FFS mate give it a rest.
Is there anything at all you like about Lotus?
I know you know your stuff when it comes to the oily bits but the constant slagging off is getting tiresome.

yes, I just can't stand people that go on about b0ll0cks like it's the best thing since sliced bread....
only muppets belive and take in this sort of stuff, if you happy to be a muppet, they don't let me stop you....
Steady on! A tad harsh me thinks. I for one happen to think Lotus's ARE the best things since sliced bread, but I am definitely NOT a muppet. Don't cast aspersions before you know or understand why we believe this. If you dislike them so much, post on another section of the forum and not in the Lotus section.

Thomas,
you have missed the point I was trying (and failing) to make.
I have the greatest respect for a lot of the staff and work that Lotus do and have done, I have owened Lotus's for some 9 years now, and would not be without one.
this does not mean however, that I blindly follow every piece of bullshit that comes out of the marketing and bullshit department.
The case in question here is that said car was used to great effect to promote how great they (Lotus) are (which is funny as they did not build it), then it was entered in it's first race and failed (engine related), so they then enter it in a much softer target (Merdeka Millennium Endurance).
for it to finnish is good, and all credit to the guy that are working with it.
however, to anounce it as "Lotus Sport Exige Romps to Victory at Sepang"
when the reality is that it only just beet a Civic (that did comply to FIA Appendix J Article 255) by 1 lap in 279 is somewhat Jingoistic to put it mildly.
I suspect that if Lotus did another 'special edition' Elise with some refference to this race, you lot would lap it up, and to my mind, that's sad.
Hehe one of my mates who is on another forum has done some work on that civic and you wouldn't BELIEVE how much money has been thrown at it... it's about as close to a standard civic as a BTCC car is to a standard road-goer
I say good on the Exige team... they've got it going reliably and obviously very quick... fair enough a "mere civic" came in second, but look at what impressive machinery finished further down the field.... remember, that Exige is basically a one-off and is still very much in development... expect more speed and reliability out of it in the future

Fair enough, and I thank you for clearing that up. However, I think you may over-estimate the marketing value that a win in a place most people would need an atlas and a spare hour to find, actually has. I doubt very much whether lotus's customers would be concerned about such a victory (however hollow you may think it is). In my mind, the emphasis would be on the car and the spec sheet and perhaps even the knowledge that the suspension is going to be amongst the best (quite obviously as Lotus doesn't get its reputation from nowhere).
Might I also provide the addage that whoever drove the car at Sepang was not driving it a 10/10ths, as even you have commented that it should have destroyed its competition. If this is the case, which I am not suggesting it is, then the marketing value of a car that could beat its competitors whilst driving well below its capable limit whilst they were most definitely 'on it', is far greater.
I can see your point about marketing babble, but I also think that it was more than a little unfair to suggest that we soak this information up and treat it as gospel. I studied Politics at university and as such I CAN recognise marketing 'bullshit' when I see it. I also have the ability to read deeper into a situation and could see from this that the emphasis may have been on the car's actual ability and not necessarily on the way it was driven on that particular day.
