Hi,

I'm thinking of changing my alfa gtv for an early-ish s2. It would be my only car (wife has a discovery though, so moving big stuff not an issue) which I'd use for about 12k per year and it would probably have to stand outside. A fair bit of my mileage is commuting into Manchester, so it needs to be reasonably managable in traffic.

I wonder how feasible people think this is ? As I live in Derbyshire I'm a bit worried about the roof leaking.

Also, has anyone used Christopher Neil in Cheshire? They'd be about my only option for purchase and servicing I think.

Any info much appreciated.

I use my S2 every day - in fact its a company car and I do around 25K miles a year. Longest drive in one stretch is around 4-5 hours no probs. Some people report probs with the early S2 'long-roofs' leaking, but on the most they are better than the S1, and just need to be adjusted properly. I have the later 'short-roof' which has never leaked from day one. Im pretty much like yourself and my partner has a big comfy Volvo should we need to carry any luggage etc, so I do have access to a practical car if needed. However most of the time I dont want to :-) I think the only niggle I have with driving mine during the winter is that the heater is pretty poor - it does warm the cabin up ok after a few miles, but de-misting the screen etc takes a while. Guess we are spoilt these days with even the avg family hatch having air-con, we soon forget what it was like to drive a car without!
