Hi folks,

I’ve been looking at these portable type lifts that are becoming popular? The type that raise the car up via electricity or hydraulic- or manual.

I did the timing belt on my Elise a few years ago and it’s going to need doing again . I remember it was a right PITA, raising it lowering it. On jacks / axle stands.

Has anyone got any experience of these type of lifts / hoists?

And are they hindered by the Elise design? The need to remove the rear floor etc to get at anything - before jacking etc..

Thanks in advance Jim.

I've recently bought a Quickjack.

Not had a chance to use it on the elise yet but the measurements stack up.

I've fitted these to the Elise as otherwise you need to remove both undertrays each time you jack.

Same, recently purchased Quickjack 5000, also installed those pucks so you can lift a Lotus without removing the undertray.
Very useful, recommend the lift, simple, easy, works in smaller garages, store them under the parked car in the garage as they go very low.

Many thanks folks for replies, and apologies for tardy reply - I was just waiting for experienced views.

My quandary is this?

I changed the timing belt 12 months after I’d had it done.
Why? because the water pump failed.

Why I’d not insisted the garage that serviced my car did the water pump at the same time is another story. I trusted them.

Which is why I service my car now.

We were in lockdown at the time and I was doing not a lot, I was dammed if I was going to pay the same garage in excess of £50 / hour - when I could do the job myself.

It wasn’t a particularly hard job to do, but I was wheeling it in and out of the garage over a couple of days jacking it up and down and doing it RIGHtT! PITA as you guys know.

£1400 is a big outlay on a tool (jack) that I may not get a lot of use of.

I’ll think it all through, of course, when I do decide to sell the Elise - eventually. That sort of thing can go in the sale, or e bay.

Have a good weekend, and thank you!

Looked at these on the site. Where do they fit?

Under the tray they replace a bolt already in the chassis, you then put stickers on the tray to where they are to show the jacking point.

Plenty of guides out there. They were fiddly to fit, but worth it.
