I keep flitting between spending 45k on a 3rd car or 25-30k.

I’ve looked 987 spyders at the top of budget, but also 25k on a nice low mileage Elise 111r

However. I was sent a vid of a 2008 lotus Elise SC. 30k ish mileage, FSH, loads of history etc etc . I don’t know much about lotus prices, only that a few years ago cars that are now for sale at £25k were prob sub £20k!

The SC is £30k. It’s white, comes with soft and hard tops.

Am I stupid for considering it?

By today's prices it's probably OK (especially if you want a white one) - it wasn't a popular colour (I've never seen one other than the Roger Beckers).
However if I was buying one, I would be looking to source one from someone who deals in Lotus a lot (Jon Seal or Will Blackham for example).
Will has a 2009 car (please note I don't know the car and am not associated with Will, other than by selling him a car a few years ago) with higher mileage, but it's for sale for £26k

The SC 2zz is one of the best Elise. Price probably on the high side. Make sure the oil cooler pipe recall has been Carried out.

Thanks Tony. I’ve just had a look at Will’s SC. Looks good but higher mileage than I’d be looking for. Would prefer black to the white. I’ve found another SC at another dealer which is 28ish k and sub 25k miles. It’s also a more desirable colour. They have a viewer on Sunday but if it doesn’t go I’ll take a look. With all the market uncertainty £28k is about what I’d be prepared to pay for an SC , I had a short text convo with Jon Seal last week and he was saying I would need to budget around that figure for a good S2.

Just for information, I paid £26k for one 2013 and traded it in in 2015 for £26k, so todays prices aren't that different.
Enjoy the car when you get it.

For me personally, a sport 190 s2 would be the best Elise to get. However it’s most likely more than your 28k budget.
