Last Wednesday I drove my first Elise. It was an 111S MK1.
It had 68.000 km on the clock and there was some rattle, as if the valve would have too much play. (The engine was warm.)
Question: Does the Rover K-Series not come with hydraulic valve tappets?

Patrick, at lower revs the rattle you hear is probably the valving in the fuel injection system.

Trevor,

don't think so, as there was a standard MKll with 25.000 km standing next to it, which was not doing that noise.

Patrick, it might be worth referring this question to the technical bit of the Lotus BBS (www.british-cars.co.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=lotusbbs&access=41711396106021)

The S2 uses a later version of the engine so I suspect the fuelling system will be different also.

Any S1 and S2 users wish to comment?

yep I ran I 111s that had what sound like a loose tappet

but actually was the fuel system valve thingy - which rattles in cold then warms up and stops - if you've come from a fully sound proof car its a noisey bugger

get the temp gauge up to about 75c and then floor it in second - usually cures it !
