Elise hire - track day
Discussion
Hi guys,
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help. My girlfriend has just bought a rather lovely S2 Elise (and luckily yes, she does let me drive it!). Now, she doesn't really want to take it out on track but having only ever driven fwd before (her previous car was a Puma) she is quite interested in getting some tuition on track, in an Elise so that she can find out exactly what it can do in a nice, safe environment.
Has anybody got any experiences of anything like this that you could recommend? I have found a couple in the net but prices vary widely and I'd rather have a recommendation.
Thanks.
Mike

LOtus do training days in their cars but there really is no substitute for being in your own car knowing how it will behave rather than a similar one.
Airfield training is as safe as you get and weill alow her to experince the limits of the car and beyond in a safe environment, Carlimits and Don Palmer seem to be two favourites.

Yup - what he said above.
I suggest she does it in her own car, on an airfield or large open space (Andrew Walsh's Car Limits is widely recommended on here, though not done it myself...yet). She'll take maybe 1000 miles off her tyres, but the experience (and photos
) will be invaluable.
One point though, the man's booked up until about November I think (he's that good).

OK, thanks guys. I will suggest it to her but she might not be too keen to put her car through it!! Also, I think it is a lot to do with building confidence in her own abilities as well as knowing what the car will do. But I do agree with you that her car would be ideal.
Does anyone have any experience of a day in a supplied car, just in case she refuses to use hers?
Cheers

Unfortunately I have no experience of a day in a supplied car but, I would just like to stress, that these cars are designed exactly for that purpose - so, with mechanical sympathy, her car will perform absolutely flawlessly if she took it to an airfield and then be able to drive it home.
Sorry I can't be of more use on the supplied-car-front.
Oh, unsure if you are aware of it - perhaps take a look at www.seloc.org (south east lotus owners club). There is a very good forum on there also for lots of good information.
Good luck!

Tell her to stop fannying around and get her own car on an airfield. She wont break it and its not that heavy on tyres.
They are designed to be driven hard and she will get far more benefit having training in her own car.
Trust me once she has done some training she will be well up for more trackdays.

LOL!! You don't need to tell me that!! I just wanted to know the options. I figure that when she sees it will cost £100+ for a dozen (at most) laps in someone elses car (and with a little gentle persuasion from me), she will see that a full day in her own for £200 is a bargain (and we all know how women like bargains!!).
