problems getting tyres for s2
Discussion
Has anyone had problems getting tyres for an s2?
I have tried all tyre dealerships in south and central Scotland, the only place that has them is Lotus dealership Murrays in Edinburgh £380 for two, not a chance matey!! Is there anywhere I can them a bit cheaper? I have had quotes of about £85 for Bridgestones which seems to be the only size that fits.

Hi there,
I'm just outside Edinburgh and have recently had a new set of 4 Potenza's (with correct DOT code) fitted by Thistle Tyres on Easter Road, for £465 all in.
I've used them for several of my cars and they're very careful with alloys. Call them on 0131 554 3344, ask for John and specify the correct DOT codes.

Have you considered changing from Bridgestones? I was being quoted silly money from Lotus for my S2. They wanted £300 + VAT for a rear pair.
In the end I got 4 Dunlop SP9000's for £319 fitted.
Much better grip in the dry, doesn't aquaplane through standing water, a tiny amount less understeer.
Limits seem fractionally lower in the dry at the back end but it's way more predictable than it used to be.
I was cautious changing, and it took a good 750 miles to run them in but I'll not go back to Bridgestones now.
People also have similar opinions of Toyo's too. Same money as the Dunlops.
Use the same rear size of 225/45 R17 and a new front size of 185/50 R16.

For the Bridgestones, correct codes for the Elise try either of the two below, when I ordered through Bookatrack they were fitted by Kwik fit Mobile.

Using Toyo T1-Rs myself, cheaper, better in the wet, not so good for a hot trackday, living in scotland they're fine.

Had loads of hassle trying to get hold of the correct dot coded bridgestone myself. I researched all the forums and read in depth about how it has to be the dot coded dck lotus spec and not the cfe coded tyre. (both 91w bz fitment)
Went to Helensburgh Tyre Services (HTS) and the guy there was good. He contacted Bridgestone who said they were out of dck and the next lot are on a slow boat.
After a bit more research and phoning up a boffin at Lotus it appears the only real difference is that dck are made specifically for lotus, cfe are to the same spec but not produce specifically at lotus's behest.
I fitted two Potenza re040 91w BZ (cfe) rears last week at HTS for £218. They feel no differnt. They are no different.
One fianl thing the guy at lotus said (and he wasn't selling bridgestone's trust me). He has come across people who's insurance wouldn't pay out because they weren't on spec rubber. You would have to be a spotter insurance inspector to see the dot code though.
