Er no. My only nod ned-ism will be when the new HU, sub and mid's get fitted in a week or so. And that's only because I love music so much that I just can't stand it being of a crap quality, even in a car as loud as mine

Its been a while since i've asked a really dumb question, so here it is...

I'm not sure if my second airbox has been removed as i dont have a before/after. Where will it be located, and how can i tell?

OK, going on what you've said, if you have a 'sports filter' I'm assuming it's just a replacement for the regular panel filter in the OE housing correct?

If so, as you look at the engine bay to the left of the throttle body you'll see a rubber flexi-pipe leading into the first airbox. If you still have the second airbox fitted it is located below this, and towards the front of the engine bay (i.e. towards the passenger cell) and low down (IRRC near the bell-housing).

Yes, correct re: panel filter, and i can honestly say that i've never noticed a second filter.

If it turns out that i do indeed still have it, will it take much to remove?

Check off the airbox you can see - does the inlet pipe come straight in from the side vent or from a black box below. Essentially the 2nd box is the same as the first and linked up. If it's been removed the inlet pipe on the box you can see will route straight to the airvent.

No idea on what you'd have to do to get the 2nd one off but at a guess, undertray off, a bolt or two to undo, pull it all out and then re-route the inlet pipe into the first airbox.

Hey Fellow Sport 160 owner !

I have put front speakers into mine and a sub. I have a 10" JL audio sub behind the seats, only just fits, had to build a tiny box. The fronts are tiny 4" coaxials. I removed the right and left dash board air vents, and put the speakers in there, perfect fit. Dont really need the air vents, just the 2 work fine Goes loud as hell now but like you say just to make it sound good, not chav style if you know what I mean.

You should get that standard air box out and fit one of my induction kits, sounds awsome ! developing it for the 111R now too due to popular demand.

Sounds (and looks) good piooly.

Want me to stick one of your kits on mine as a test mule? Got any pics or info?

Hey Works.

Thanks for the offer of testing but quite a lot of that has been done. So far, I've sold 15 induction kits, all good feedback through ebay. They are £95.99 + p&p. I am about to re-list them as I'm awaiting stock. I'll let you know the ebay number when they are on. I also sell a rain kit for the S1, mine only lets a couple of drops in even when using a jet wash !

Went out with Gooby the other day for a big drive. I filled up with Optimax and added an bottle of octane booster, (thought I might need it) basically makes it racing fuel at 102ron. Anyway, my car went like a missile. You should try it !!! ask gooby, he could'nt pull away from me at all in his 111R. I was a little shocked I have to say. It also just so happens that I am waiting delivelry of some fully approved Millers CVL turbo octane booster. this will make a tank of optimax racing fuel. The additive cost £10 in the shops. I will be able to sell it for a little less if your interested.

I bit of additive does NOT make it racing fuel, not even close. Higher octane or better quality fuel won't make any noticable difference unless the car is remapped to use it.

Well randy, I have to totally disagree with your comment. I was'nt dreaming about the difference it made to my car. It really was impressive..

The additive I use is FIA approved for track use. Remapping will always be the best option but the ecu is not as thick as people make out for the K series.

Give it a try, its fantastic stuff. Maybe it works so much better in mine engine as it is a highly tunned derivative of the K series.??

What, give it a try so I can buy some from you?

Really, this is just snake oil and won't make bugger all difference, even in your 'highly tuned' Metro engine.

The K series has no knock sensor - in simple terms this means that the ECU cannot tell whether you have 95RON or 110RON in the tank = no difference whatsoever...FACT....just a complete waste of money...of course unless your local garage has 91RON and the K series is expecting 95RON, then you would need it just to give the engine the fuel it is expecting for the map it is running.

To take advantage of higher octane fuel, you would need to fit an aftermarket ECU like the Emerald, and then have the car mapped with 98/100RON whatever...and even then the performance gain on a 200bhp K series is around 3-4bhp difference so not worth in the real world and certainly not discernible by the old 'seat of the pants' dyno....I know because I had my old supercharged K series (220bhp) re-mapped with 98 and it made cock all difference in reality and was certainly not worth the extra cost.

If you want to put £10 worth of additive into every tank then thats up to you...its your money and if you 'think' its running better then thats up to you....why not stick your car on a dyno, then re-test after youve added the additive? - it will cost you about £80 for 2 runs - then post up the results and all your customers can see for themselves the difference

Did you get out of the bed the wrong side? Has your rattle got out of reach?

You may not agree with piooly but from being in the 111R in front, his car went like a bloody missle up to about 130 (on the track) Not the only one who witnessed it. Even an experienced racer was very surprised at how well it went.

If you dont like the K then you may need to get your toys together, cos you are in the wrong place.

My understanding (and this topic has been debated several times over the years - see archives on SELOC and British Cars BBS) is that strictly speaking from a mechanical perspective it makes no difference what RON fuel you stick in. The reasons for this as are set out by Bogie above.

Perception and reality can often be two different things.

the 111R Toyota cars *may* have a knock sensor - will have to check. The K series does not.

Do Lotus state in the 111R handbook running on 98 or 95RON? If they state 98RON for track etc then it may have a sensor and be able to adjust timing etc to take advantage of higher octane fuel...even so its like 2 or 3 bhp....and if you think you can notice that from the seat of the pants youre joking
