I am being dragged to a wedding today, a friend of the wife's is getting married. I have never liked the bride and she more or less exactly get on my nerves. The only fun of the day was to be turning up in the liz with the top down and then driving away from the wedding at high speed.

This also has been ruined as the wife has offered to give a lift to another couple so I have to drive the 4x4. So I cant get drunk, probably a good thing as I generally speak my mind and there is no need for my opinion today.

Dont get me wrong, I usually enjoy weddings but it is dependent on me actually being happy for the bride and groom. I have never felt so sorry for a bloke in my life.

I cant make a spectacle or do anything outrageous, but how am I going to have fun today?

Help.

Hate to say it Gooby, but you probably won't / can't

I have had a few similar weddings to attend this year and the only saving grace has been the drive in the Liz.

Well worth staying sober for!

In fairness, as the wife offered the lift, she should drive the 4x4. You can then go solo in the Liz and plan for an early departure and the "long route" home!

Too right Boggy

I bloody hate weddings - especially when they are people I only half know.

Life is too short to spend time doing stuff out of 'duty'

and the wedding's on a THURSDAY as well!? So have you had to take time off or something?

If I were you, I'd suddenly feel not very well at all and declare you're giong to stay at home all day, you'll be no fun and will feel rubbish.

Then, 2 mins after the other half has gone out (better make it 3 mins actually), go outside, and use three incredibly precious things:

1) a day off
2) the weather
3) your elise

I went to one Wedding & after about an hour into the Reception the Bride & Groom announced that we all had to leave because they had both been invited to another Wedding, mind you the reception was in some dodge Flat in Gravesend NICE !

I went with my Family and had no idea it would turn out like that, what a Nightmare ! he couldn't even string the Vows together

Sorry, let me just try and get my head round this. A couple cut short their own wedding day (and were rude to their guests into the bargain) in order to go to someone else's wedding?

If this other wedding was so important to them, why didn't they reschedule their own so as not to clash?

Or am I missing something?

When me and Boggy got married in June we had the photographer take a few photos with our Lotus Elise for the wedding album! They have come out brilliantly!

Boggy was stuck in traffic on M25 and M4 the morning we got married, and thank you to our wonderful Elise he made it just in the nick of time!

When I got married in June, the best man and I used the 111R to get to the church - festooned with ribbons etc. Caused a crash - someone coming the other way was too busy looking at us and didn't spot the traffic waiting at some lights...

My wife and I got married at Silverstone Circuit and as a surprise extra between the races (it was a minor race day) they rolled out his & her's Elises from the race school complete with drivers (mine was Rob Barff ) to take us for a passenger parade lap. Nice.

My sister got married at the weekend and I took my now brother-in-law to the venue in the Exige S2. They had a guy recording the whole day and he filmed us approaching the place! The video had better start with that shot or else!!

Agree with Boggy - if you really don't like her, your wife shouldn't make you go.

Hope it went ok mate. If you did go and were a good boy, Mrs gooby owes you one.

Thanks for the advice. Mrs Gooby and I had a bit of a row on the way. She said "fine, I will get a lift back and you can go do what you want" My responce was you should have not nagged me to go since Feb when I said I didnt want to go, it is far too late to just not turn up. We agreed to carry on with the day and I would behave myself. It was also pointed out to me that we have 2 more weddings to go to this year both of which are my friends and Mrs Gooby is expected to come.

There has been some blackmail going on, the girls have all been saying that the guys have to go because I was looking forward to seeing them and vice versa. So there were a load of friends who were in the same boat.

The bottom line is that it was noware as bad as I expected. I did avoid the bride and groom, I wasnt trying to be rude or ungrateful, I am just not a sincere liar. I wished them well at the appropriate time but left it at that.

The catholic church ceremony was terrible. Religion is not my bag and the vicar (?) waffled at tangents as obsecure as his DVD and I was really loosing the will to carry on, but oh well it didnt last as long as it felt.

The saving grace of the day was the band. They were superb. Very cool guys playing very cool music very well.

It was a good job I didnt take the 'liz cos Mrs Gooby got more than a little drunk!

I would probably have prefered to spend my day in a very different way but in the end we had some fun.
