Winter Exige collection
Discussion
I’m due to collect a (new to me) Exige 350 in a couple of weeks. It’s down west of London and I am up in the Highlands (Aviemore).
Given it’s the middle of winter and the roads up here tend to be heavily coated in grit, I’m wondering what my best method of collection is.
1. Just drive it back and stop worrying
2. Have it collected on an open trailer for a moderate sum
3. Go the whole hog and have it collected in an enclosed trailer
My concerns are largely based around 10 hours of salty water getting sprayed everywhere in the car. It won’t be used October - March normally so the timing of this is unfortunate.
Thoughts?

I’ll be driving my new to me 350 home on Saturday (mines red as well). But only from the south coast to darkest Worcestershire. They offered delivery but I said no, where the fun in not driving….. unless it’s snowing lol. Looking forward to getting back into a lotus after 10yrs away.
I dare say the salt/grit situation is a bit more harsh further north!

All will be fine. I drove my S2 Exige home from London way to Edinburgh 3 years ago. Just gave it a thorough wash when I got home.
Which 350 did you buy? Was it the Red one?
No it’s blue, but not one that was officially up for sale Which 350 did you buy? Was it the Red one?
I probably am overthinking it. I guess with the underside being flat and completely covered (?) the muck wont get too far.

It certainly could be. It hasn’t been too bad this winter but collection is a week on Saturday so it could all change by then..! I dare say the salt/grit situation is a bit more harsh further north!

My thoughts . If you don't drive the car back , once it arrives , how long do you think you can wait before the temptation to jump in it and drive your Exige will last ? I don't think you will be able to wait until the sun comes out and the roads have no salt on them.
Drive the car back and enjoy. Using the money you have saved by not having the car trailered back put towards having the car professionally cleaned when you get home.

I had an Elise 111R previously, but this should be quite a step up!
My last one was a 2008 Elise SC which I sold in 2010. Hadn't been in one since. Annoyed myself by not having bought one through lockdown, I almost bought a 410 for £66k this time last year, regret not doing it now, tried and failed to get a 390 to my spec, but who knew the prices would go this way, can't find a low miles charge cooled one for under 75k at the moment it seems. I then had massive scope creep and considered splurging on a new 420 final edition, did all the numbers and looked seriously at it. I drove a couple of cars and decided that while the 410 is obviously a better car in a number of ways, a 350's abilities are still miles higher than mine as a driver so I settled on a red 350 now that the price of entry to the 410 club isn't just a few grand more.
Looking forward to it, might even spend a bit on some mods as my abilities evolve

Yes agreed, the 350 is plenty for me. A V6S would have done me fine I’m sure but I got this one for a good price that was worth paying a little more for. Looks great, carbon front cover too, nice!
I went with this one.
I'd been thinking about a 420 and then clicked on the wrong link online and landed on this 350 listed for more or less £30k less than the 420 I was looking at because I'd arsed around too long not buying any of the 410's early last year.
Made me think for what I'm going to use it for, a 350 is more than enough, and its got the things I wanted doing to it already done. PPF to the nose, Aim dash and the soft top conversion (including the roof itself which seem hard to get hold of at the minute), and roughly 18 months of warranty left which is useful if I have any early issues. Few other cosmetic updates too which I quite liked. Looking forward to getting it, forgot how much fun they are, even at sane speeds.

That looks good, liking the wing deals. Might need to get some myself! I went with this one.

many would say just wash and treat it, but I understand the nerves.
how about putting in storage in Edinburgh for 2 months? presuming you can more easily pick some salt-free days in Edin?
I had thought about doing exactly that as my folks are in Edinburgh. However I have spoken to the current owner and he is happy to keep it tucked away in his garage SORN’d until the weather improves. I’ll just have to wait! how about putting in storage in Edinburgh for 2 months? presuming you can more easily pick some salt-free days in Edin?
