help with ipod

ok sorry to bother you but i'm not understanding how to do this!

i've just bought a new sony headunit and an ipod adaptor thing that plugs into the port for the cd changer. looks like this:

what do i now need for my ipod?

there's a wide array fo stuff but they all seem to have a cable?!?

yeah but how do i connect the ipod to that thing?

i know this is a stupid question but does the ipod use bluetooth or something? won't the signal be better if it's just connected with a cable? or am i totally missing the simplicity of it all?

Perhaps it is some kind of receiver to pick up the signal from an iTrip??? So you get better receiption than relying on the standard aerial, perhaps??? Just guessing though.

iTrips available on ebay for <£30 if you don't already have one.

If you need an itrip I have one you can try to see if thats what you need. There must be some way of plugging the iPod into that black box, no? I have on plugged into the cd changer port of my Alpine and its just a minijack input so you plug it into the top of the ipod and into the headunit.

apparently i plug my ipod into the black box thing.

so i'll need another cable which apparently comes with the ipod?! i'll wait and see and no doubt spend a day cursing and swearing at it.
