hi

i'm looking at a car with a sports exhaust and induction kit fitted - which tbh i really fancy but the cat has been removed to allow the sports exhaust to be fitted.

my question is: will the car fail it's MOT due to not having the catalytic converter?

also as an aside the car is a 2001 S2 - it's not had it's timing belt changed yet - am i correct in thinking it would have to be done soon even although the car has only 20000 miles on the clock and was services last month?

Davey,

would i have to refit the original exhaust and the cat to get it to pass the MOT?

i don't think the current owner has these!!!

Firstly, having it de-catted to 'allow the sports exhaust to be fitted' isn't really the case mate - it's been de-catted to a) improve the sound and b) to get a few (and I mean maybe 2 if you're lucky) more ponies.

Yes it will fail without a Cat.

Lotus revised the belts replacement advice last year, to 4 years or 45k (from 5/54k). So yes, if you're being fastidious it's due a change this year regardless of mileage. Approx 4 hrs labour + parts I think.
