hi my mates just got the new exige with the sports exhaust and induction kit , but he needs more power . what can he do for £2000 ?

i have a vx220 turbo with milltek exhaust and a remap so its about 265bhp

we had a drag race and by 7000 revs i was half a car ahead ,and by second gear i was a full car ahead , and third a full car and ahalf ahead easily , not to say he was pissed off. he needs a turbo i think .who does them and how much ? my car is an 04 which i picked up for £11500 as a light cat d - fully repaired, and his £35.000 is three times more expensive ,but alot slower . what can he do ?

Add some corners and see how many car lengths you end up behind!

Tell your mate to forget about straight line speed. If he wants that, he should never have bought a Lotus. Get the Exige on some nice twisty roads and nothing will stay with him, Not even a 265bhp VX

Tell him to sell it and buy a second hand Noble instead.

Either that or forget about drag racing and get his car on a track.

Have to agree though the performance you can get from a fettled VX220T for not a huge amount of money is very impressive.

Get on a track and see who's fastest then. 1 and 1/2 cars isn't very impressive given the supposed power difference anyway!

at the moment there arnt any tuning options for the Yota lump in the UK - in the US there is a turbo conversion...thats it really....he should have bought an early S2 and stuck a Honda lump in it

IMO I'd tell him to get over it and really think about the important things in life. Why do people always have to have the fastest, best cars, just enjoy the car for what it is for a bit!

theres a factory supercharger upgrade in the wings but it'l be a few months i expect before they offer it abd it'l be more than 2000 pounds probably somthing like 6000 but the performance with this upgrade should be very impressive so i'd tell him to start saving

Theres the factory supercharger due soon (rumoured at 240bhp) theres a swedish supercharger availiable now at 265bhp and a forcefed american turbo charger at 275bhp.

I would ask which sports exhaust he has as I changed from a stage 1 to the quicksilver supersport and I definately have noticable more torque at low revs this is with the ITG induction. Although no tested I beleive it is putting out over 200bhp. Above that you are currently talking lots of money on embryonic tuning. Also two people are working on ECU upgrades/remapps but I expect that to be along way of.

O/T - How do you go about getting the Quicksilver plus ITG fitted - I guess they aren't official Lotus parts so the main dealer wouldn't be invoved? I was about to go for a Stage2...

The ITG was fitted at ITG as it was the production test. I fitted the Quicksilver myself it involves one 14mm nut and afew 8mm plus two allen key bolts. All very easy to do just check the exhaust is not blowing before you put the rear diffuser back on. Now I have done one I recon about 20mins to change.

The ITG is quite straight forward to do albeit it will take longer but perfectly do able from a DIY point of view.

If you diddn't fancy a go yourself a dealer probebly would do it if you supplied the parts.

Having spoken and heard the stage 2 I would suggest you seriously consider the quick silver as the stage 2 is very loud. The quicksilver pops and bangs is loud but not stupid. All subjective but I listened to Lisa change into 4th after red lining out the drive and I could still hear her the other side of the house probebly a 1/2 mile away.

It has transformed my car, even lisa says its like a motorbike now.
