I've some pennies burning a hole, and I want to spend a little on the car (£200 - £300?). I don't see the point of performance upgrades just for the sake of them, as:

a/ I only do at most a couple of trackdays a year.
b/ The only real modification which would make the car go faster would be a replacement driver.

What's worth spending money on and what's a waste? A quick trawl around eliseparts etc, and I like the black/alloy indicator stalks, or maybe a removable steering wheel for pose value?

All advice welcome.:D

Gear linkage kit and quickshift kit would be my first choice...makes the gearchange much nicer and more positive.

Dunno about the Eliseparts removeable steering wheel, specifically, but removeable wheels in general have a reputation for becoming loose on their splines. Unless you actually need one to get in and out of the car (which you don't, on an Elise), I'd settle for just a smaller, non-removeable Momo wheel or similar if you don't like the original Lotus item.

The original indicator stalks are the most horrible things I have set eyes on. The scream astra. The alloy ones are sooo nice!

Wendy,

If you haven't got a sports exhaust fitted, I can wholly recommend one. I have lots of other stuff fitted to my S1 nowadays, but I remember the smile on my face when I got my sports exhaust fitted a few year ago. Power increase is almost non-existant, but the extra noise adds to the driving experience.

Otherwise, if you haven't got a shower cap, but one. It makes Elise ownership so much easier. I got an Elemental, which is supposed to be the best and they are under a 100 notes.

I have not heard anything about spline problems on removable steering wheels. I know a few people that have them for security purposes as they park their cars on the street.

I guess another recommendation would be to consider braided hoses and/or uprated pads. Hoses give better feel (I certainly noticed it) and pads do make quite a difference on the Elise. Pagids are great, but costly. SBS are a make that a few Elise owner have found to be at least as good as Pagid, but cheaper. Check www.questmead.co.uk for suppliers of SBS.

Sorted for a sports exhaust, thanks (Larini).

Gear linkage kit sounds good, though. Lotus or after-market?

Do a North Wield day with First Lotus. Around £180 or check out activity days on LOT or SELOC for loads less than that. SELOC even have ladies only events (Lipstick Lotus!).

...Gearlinkages are cheapest off Ebay if you search under Lotus Elise. More expensive for what appears to be the same item at eliseparts. More expensive again at lotus if they do them.

I appreciate what you're saying about driver training. I did a day at Hethel a couple of years ago, one to one with Alisdair McQueen, and it was great.

However if you could actually see me at the moment you'd understand why I'm not interested at present! (New baby due in 7 weeks ) Just getting in and out of the damn car is training enough!

Now the removeable steering wheel makes sense!
