Hi,

I always get nervous reading threads about users applying mods to their elise, everyone seems to be able to fix their own car when something happens - makes me think im going to have to spend a fortune at garages or find a mechanic to befriend.

I serviced my Elise, no problem at all. Next time I take the undertray off hopefully I now know how to do it without it falling on my head......

I did get the Cambelt done by a peformance specialist, they have done Elises and MGF's before so they did it no problem at all.

Otherwise, I plan to do most work myself, especially easy things like brakes, and minor mods. My major problem is not having a garage at present, once that is sorted, it'll be fine.

They are really simple cars though, nothing too drastic.

I do most of the work on my Exige myself as it is pretty straightforward stuff. I do however know a lad who owns a garage and he does the jobs that require a little more experience, plus he has all the proper tools to hand. I wouldn't take it to Lotus because I don't agree with paying their prices, would rather have the money in my pocket than theirs!!

Buy yourself a copy of the workshop manual on CD and you can't go wrong!!

I do all the work myself including building a new engine, and rebuilding the car.
Its a giant mechano kit! Great fun to work on...

Except cleaning, oil, water and TLC, I do NOTHING myself.
My opinion is not important but I do not believe that everybody is doing everything himself as the others posts seems to mention
