Dear all, I''ve owned my standard Elise for three months now & twice in two days I''ve come up against a Subaru WRX. I''ve managed to keep pretty close until about 90ish but there''s no way I could pull alongside or past. I need more ponies!!!! What''s reasonably cheap & won''t make me more popular with my local petrol station or insurer? CJ

Take a look at the link below. It has loads of tuning details about K series. Any reasonable increase is going to cost, but read all the article, 200+BHP from a 1.8 non VVC elise!!!! http://hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/kengine.htm Sparks

I have no experience (not even an elise owner ) of chips, but I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that they don't improve power much without additional work. As the url I gave before says, it is all down to airflow. K&N filter and maybe an exhaust mod could be worth looking into. But most of all, don't always believe what the 'bolt on bits' companies claim. Good luck. Sparks

Re superchips - forget them. Absolute waste of money. After doing some cam work I was convinced into getting one about 3 years ago. Both in driving and rolling road proved it made absolutely no difference. Re tuning the car, there are endless ways of going about it. Rather than repeat what's already been said, I suggest you go and look at the Lotus BBS at www.british-cars.co.uk. You'll find many people have already asked the same question and there is a wealth of information. Also often people have things for sale. For myself, I've got enough bits at home to get 150bhp out of an Elise sitting doing nothing (reminder, must get rid of them!). I'm just finishing putting mine back together after complete rebuild. Hoping for lotsa power. Cheers Guy

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the WRX (import only) models on about 280bhp? Most scooby owners will have done a few mods where even the basic air/exhaust changes will produce 300bhp. What type of power would be required in an Elise to keep up, given the better weight and aerodynamics of the Elise? Naunt

purely on PWR, 200bhp elise would work out at ~270bhp per ton roughly equal to a 300bhp WRX Sparks

A standard UK WRX uses 215 brake to haul its fat arse about. The stats are in the back of EVO magazine. The UK turbo is 240 brake CJ

I got the scooby weight wrong, WRX with 300bhp PWR is 216bhp per ton (standard uk is 156bhp per ton) an elise would only need 162bhp to match it.( standard elise matchs uk WRX PWR) Sparks Edited by Sparks on Wednesday 8th August 13:30

Check out www.ptp-ltd.co.uk ref PTP/ITG air box induction kit. Gives a 9% increase in power (Thats 10.8bhp from a standard 120bhp Elise) for £299.00 quid, and is a DIY fitment. I have got one fitted to my Elsie and is worth every penny.
