Picked the Exige up at 1.30 today after its aftercare service.

Took it straight onto a nearby dual carriage way and went up a few junctions to let it warm up properly then finally went onto the second cam for the full revs.

Mhrist all crucking fighty. Its a quick car. A quick burst in third then fourth has you into 3 figures and still pulling hard.

I was surprised how different the car felt after getting it back but it felt faster and a lot looser. Maybe it was just me after having driven Steffs Sport 135 for part of the way to Le Mans and back and being able to fully rev it after having had to be careful in my car for a few weeks but whatever it was it felt great.

I decided to make the most of the decent weather and my week off and went for a blast around Brecon in the afternoon.

I know there have been a few conflicting opinions on here (and in the motoring press) about the 2 different cam profiles but I absolutely love it. The drive to Brecon is on dual carriageway which is more often than not patrolled by scamera vans. Apart from a few big roundabouts to liven things up its just a 75-80 mph cruise. For cruising the Exige is great. Brake very late at the roundabouts, throw it in then nail it to the limiter in 3rd then 4th and then short shift straight into 6th and let the speed drop to a comfortable cruise.

From Brecon to Builth Wells is my favourite road, well surfaced, twisty, fast and always quitet. The Exige was just awesome on it today. Its a lot easier to keep it on cam than you think it will be. You just need to cancel out your ears telling you you need to change and keep the revs high. And the car just flies.

I'm still getting used to the car and the big increases in speed and grip over the S1 but already it is so much faster point to point than the S1. There is a nice long downhill straight on the run where the Exige was pulling at least 30% more speed than the old car.

The only problem is the exhaust. With the ITG on second cam it sounds fantastic inside the cabin but I know its too quiet outside.

Yesterday I was convinced that the Stage 2 was the way to go even though it would be a hasstle changing it back to the standard exhaust for track days. After todays blat and hearing it on second cam I'm not so sure. A Stage 1 will give it more noise outside but shouldnt drone at constant revs like the S2 can do.

Undecided on that one so have decided to leave it for a month and chew it over a bit more.

Basically though very impressed and looking forward to a longer run tomorrow.

A few pics from todays run taken in the Brecon Beacons. Behind the car is a great waterfall which would usually make a great backdrop but because of the weather it was drier than a nun's parts so I will have to go back there when its been raining.

Thanks for letting us know what to expect after running in.
First maintenance is next monday.
Did a reasonnable blast last night (max 4000 rpm) on small, twisty roads and it was just wonderfull (a little frustrating sometimes) how the car handle and goes.
Dealer told me to wait another 300 mls after service to go to the second cam...
Regarding ITG, Stage 1 or 2, there is not yet no conclusion. Do you feel a difference with strd or you always had the ITG?

Ben, not sure what your dealer is on about as the manual says:

'For the first 600 miles use no more than moderate throttle openings (about half the available pedal travel) and do not run the engine continuously at engine speeds over 4,500 rpm. Occasional short bursts at wider throttle and higher rpm will be beneficial, as will a constantly changing cruising speed and making full use of the gearbox.

After 600 miles have been covered, full throttle and / or maximum rpm may be used for short periods, but not until after the 'After Sales' service has been carried out should full vehicle performance be exploited'

Mine had almost 1,500 miles on it when it went in so probably had a few hundred more miles covered than most.

The ITG was on it when I got the car so no idea what the standard airbox would sound like. I can highly recommend the ITG though.

Boggy,it is great. I feel another blast today coming on. Sounds like youre set on the Exige (and more importantly Mrs B is as well). Saw a few S2 Exiges at Le Mans but no Krypton Green ones.

Davey, cool pics and glad you’re now able to nail her…(so to speak).

Went for a blast this morning - perfect conditions for the Elise with the sun shining and the 2nd cam howling! I dropped my daughter off at School - the kids loved it with comments like "wow" and "is that a Norwich City car"?!

As for the 2nd cam opinion - getting on with it a bit better! Although... During this mornings blast, I pulled off in 1st (didn't want to nail it) and then to 2nd and did want to nail it as a straight appeared but the revs were too low for 2nd cam but too high for a 1st gear change... So, bit of a point before the 2nd cam (5K RPM) in 2nd gear where not much happened until the rush... Remember though, it's early days and I love everything else about the car so WILL learn to get on with it!

Bher – think your dealer has different opinions to the manual and everybody else I’ve spoken to regarding running in… Isn’t it the case that occasional high revs also help the engine long term – especially after the first service..? The car has a warranty and is designed to be driven fast, suggest you nail it ASAP once the service is complete!

I have to work but the sun is making the Elise’s red paint look mighty fine – going to have to nail her one more time!

Oh yeah, also decided stage1 and an ITG will be the next upgrade – just need to save the cash!

Rob.

I will post a video / sound clip once I have the Stage 1 on which should hopefully be in a few weeks.

I've asked for Krypton Green, Air cond, Touring pack & I'm also going to have some of the interior colour coded, just waiting on this house purchase then we can go for it.

Generous as ever Stewart. I'll be coming home from Goodwood mate, but a very kind thought. I look forward to meeting some of the lovely ladies sometime soon. We should arrange a lift to the next PH for one of them in my passenger seat. Applications by photoemail via my profile
