S2 Exige Insurance - Specialist or mainstream?
Discussion
Been trying to arrange insurance for the imminent arrival of an S2 Exige. It's a second car for me. A toy basically. In the past for stuff like this, I've always used specialist insurers, limited mileage policies etc and it's always been cost effective and generally a better experience. However, so far, the quotes I'm getting back at present are coming in at near double what I'm being quoted from some the likes of Admiral/Esure etc. In the face of that, is there any point me even considering the specialists? No track cover and no agreed value on any of the policies for what it's worth. Only mod is an exhaust.
Been down the route of Adrian Flux, Henderson Taylor and REIS previously but I've been using Hastings Direct for the last few years. Car is S2 Exige S RGB, I check on line every year as thier renewals are always excessive but have always bettered the online quote when you phone them. Currently paying just under £300.00
Hastings are cheap, but if you need to contact them they are a nightmare, I’ve spent hours holding to speak with customer services , they’ve just declined to transfer my bike insurance from BMW to a Ducati, as the policy is 6.5 months old they won’t provide any kind on pro-rata refund.
My Exige 410 is with LV, premium is £240 with a mileage estimate of 11k, customer services is exceptional, give them a try.

You really do have to phone around as there seems to be little consistency to risk appetite. Mine has just been renewed with Adrian Flux @£389.00 p/a for 5000 SDP miles parked in West London. Prior to that I've been with Admiral, Quote me happy etc and suddenly they all didn't fancy it despite nothing changing my end - previous premium was £428.
Car is a modded (tubular exhaust/ TRD airbox) 2014 Elise 220.

Mary Singleton at Reis insurance is great with Lotus, especially as second policies. I switched from Adrian Flux a few years ago to Reis. Worth a call.
I echo this, they’ve always been spot on for me, apart from one small grumble (they wouldn’t include track time at a Sunday Service as one of my track days).Cheers. I've been through all the suggestions and many more.
Reis kept coming up as a good option but they were nowhere for me. Nearly £900 and they refused to cover my wife despite her spending plenty of time driving my old Elise.
Cheapest Specialist option was Classic line at £600 ish.
Direct Line are under £300...
I'm a bit gobsmacked by all this to be quite honest.
I'll try the specialists again next yer but this time around it's been a frustration.

Thread resurrection time. When I first created this thread, the Exige was brand new to me and in fairness some of the insurers that I spoke to had said they were often uncompetitive on cars that had just been acquired. But now heading into my fourth year of ownership, once again I was quite keen to go down the route of specialist insurance, mainly for an agreed value policy. And unfortunately, I'm again finding that the specialist insurers are miles more expensive than mainstream options. I'm basically looking at £250 (wtih LV but others are close too) vs £900+ with the three specialists I've had quotes from so far. I'm going to try a few more but I sometimes feel like I'm doing something wrong with specialist/classic car insurance. I see people post on forums about how they're insured for buttons through specialist policies and with some nice perks for doing so. But not this guy!

The specialists I’ve spoken to seem to restrict mileage to 3-4000, if you can live with that the cost can be quite good, I couldn’t which was why I ended up with LV, although their customer service isn’t what it was.gareth h said:

Just a thought. I have a multi-car policy with Admiral and it seems that they will do agreed value. I was going to use that for a caterham with them, but I upgraded the engine which they didn't like. Depends on your view of Admiral. Longshot, but maybe worth a try?Gassing Station | Elise/Exige/Europa/340R | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
