Hi folks,

I have just seen the below on Autotrader, does this sound like a good deal. Also how are 'customer tuition cars' with regards to care and maintainence??

Any ideas and pointers would be great....thanks.....

"11,000 miles. Lotus Racing Green with black leather and green softop.Full 111S spec with Lotus service history.Originally a Lotus customer tuition car so well maintained and not road registered until 2004( hence 04 reg £17,950"

I don't think that the dealer still has this car for sale - check their website.

Another tip is to check with Lotus to get the full story on cars they have owned.

Oh and customer tuition - isn't that track day usage??? I think you'll find it is. 9,000 miles on the track....

I went to look at this car back in February, but opted for a private sale in the end. Looks like this one has been sold now. Happy shopping :-)

I read that as "Ragged to sh!t for 9,000 miles around Hethel".... BUT probably well maintained.

There's similar cars for not much more around, one I think in the PH classifieds already! Keep 'em peeled.

Little bit of background....

We've had the car on a sale-or-return agreement for some time now. The owner an ex Hethel employee moved to Malaysia to work for the parent company Proton and we agreed to sell it on their behalf.

Blythy and I have always been upfront about its history - although manufactured in 2002 it was used by Lotus as a development car by Lotus and Octagon Motorsports at Silverstone. Never utilised on the public highway until it was sold to the Hethel employee and registered in 2004 - it benefited from an '04 plate. It is factory standard S2 111S aside from the addition of later model 4 outlet dash vents and has the carbon weave sill covers.

We did sell it to an informed punter just recently, but he had second thoughts and decided not to go through with the sale - his choice, we unwound the deal and returned his deposit in full.

We then contacted the owner and informed him that although we had marketed their car over a number of months and had received a number of positive approaches and subsequent test-drives, they all baulked at its past history and chose not to proceed.
We then suggested that it be returned to them, but it was agreed to offer it at an attractive price, for a further period to secure a buyer.

IT IS CURRENTLY FOR SALE - but as pointed out in earlier posts, does not actually appear on our website; however I can confirm, like all our cars, it will benefit from our usual high standard of post sale attentions and our own nationwide warranty. It i9s of course open to any inspection.

(NB - I am on a day off today, so rouse Blythy in the office if you require any further clarification)

I spoke to Peter (apprentice) about this car when I was looking to buy. They told me the full history so I went off to investigate. The chaps at Lotus have got a load of history on it as have Octagon. It seems Octagon only used it as a test of the S2, there training cars were all S1 at the time. It only did a couple of thousand miles before going back to Lotus to be refitted and sold to an employee who then moved to Malaysia on a Proton project.

If your interested then give Octagon or Lotus a call, they have loads of info.

I came very close to buying it but when Peter got in a 111S in Nightfall blue I had to have it. Just love the colour and still really rare as it was a new colour for 04.

I reckon that if you keep hold of your cars for a while this one is an absolute bargain. You can tell the interior was re-fitted without even asking Lotus; there's no way a car that when down the line would have that kind of fit and finish.

Peter was really honest from the start about the history of the car so I had no anxieties about buying from them when I found the one I wanted.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Just like to clarify that I had nothing but honest and excellent dealing with the dealership - and my decision not to purchase from them had nothing in any way to do with their approach. If they had had the right car I would buy from them and would in the future. Their approach was professional and knowledgeable.

As for the information that Lotus hold, I just gave them a call seeing as the car was originally one of theirs to see what they could tell me. When I phoned I was informed that it was one of their tracks cars, although not used at Hethel and was sold to an employee with 9,000 miles on the clock.

For me, one that had been on the track was not something that I was interested in.

HTH, cheers Andrew

Just give them or call or drop them an e-mail. The details are on the website. I was surprised how much info they could supply.

If you can't find the details then let me know and I'll send them on.

Just to clarify, this was meant to be somewhat tongue in cheek and in no way at all disparaging of the car itself which frankly I know nothing of other than on here.

From what's been written above, if you like the colour and are in the market for one I'd say this is a deal. It's probably been better maintained than an equivalent if Lotus and an employee had it, as has been mentioned it's also got some heritage value which is cool, plus the finish if it's been fettled by them will doubtless be better than one rolling off the line.

Fair enough - but to be honest, from the owners I know from SELOC etc. by far the best condition cars, and the best looked after cars, are those which are used by people who like to use them on track. Maintenance is never scrimped on and they are true enthusiasts.

I'd only be put off of something which had been tracked if the service history was suspect and it was tatty.

No chance mate - only one colour car is right in BRG for me. Mini Coopers, and I've already had one of them.

Nice try though fella
