Check to make sure the front access cover isn't fouling on the Clam apeture right in front of the hinge. If the hinge is a bit sticky then this can happen.
It should open past vertical.

Yup, it's just snagging, there are rub marks on the clam where it's been scrubbing.

Might try and shim it up a bit. Cheers mate
