I'm pretty sure that my stickinh throttle is now due to the throttle body rather than pedal. How easy are they to change or are they are a garage jobbie?

replacing it with a larger one (52mm?) does it have any significant benefits?

what would be the best option to go for, and what sort of cost are we looking at?

PS has anyone else fitted the aluminimum air vents to their car?

cheers

very easy to change, will take you about 1/2 - 1 hour max try www.eliseparts.com - about £120 I think - may as well get a 52mm one...it sharpens the throttle response a little

You can get a 48mm one second hand for about 20 quid on eBay. If you're on a budget. I don't think there's enough difference to justify the cost of the 52mm one.

Its a pretty easy DIY job. You will need:

2 x 14mm open end spanner
1 x 8mm socket, ratchet and small extension
1 x 8mm combination spanner or ring key
1 x 7mm socket or flat blade screwdriver for the airbox pipe clip
Possibly a pair of pliers for other breather pipe clips

Thats it.

And you'll need to do a reset procedure as the throttle position sensor will be different.

cheers mate,

i've seen some of the larger ones on ebay as well, is there any parts that might not be included that are needed?

Is there anything likely to be wrong with them or are the aluminium ones bullet proof?

cheers

Hi, been 'lurking' for a little while. Hope to pick up my Elise S2 111S next week - thanks for all the information on which one to get (was thinking S1 Sport 160, but don't plan to do many track days).

Anyway back on topic, if fitting the aluminium throttle body, what is the 'reset' procedure djroadboy mentioned?

The other thing that I have just thought of is does the S2 111S have the aluminium throttle body already? Thanks...

cheers

The S2 should already have an aluminium one fitted.

There aren't any other parts you need to fit it so you don't have to worry about that.

Reset procedure:

Turn igniton fully on but don't crank the engine. Fully depress and release (slowly) the accelerator pedal 5 times. Then just start the car as normal. This will tell the ECU the fully open and fully closed positons of the throttle position sensor.

p.s. You shouldn't have any problems wth an ali one. The only thing that could be faulty is the TPS but you can use the one off your plastic body if it is.

Dan, thanks for the clarification. Once I get my hands on the car, well after a fair few miles, I'll post some pics.

I stand to be corrected but, the reset procedure is for the S1 only. S2 resets automatically.
