As the title of the topic says, my temperature gauge is reading 95 ish degrees, drops to 92 ish when driving steady and upto 98 (!!!) when at traffic lights etc! if you take it upto about 4k rpm when settng off it will drop to about 89 degrees, i guess this is as the coolant circulates faster.

i keep noticing evidence of coolant weeping from around the headgasket at the opposite end of the engine to the cam belt, and towards the inlet side but on the end face, but its very occasional and i can't make it do it - sometimes it does but mainly it's ok - its just running red hot! are the 2 things related?

my car is a '97 S1 Elise

thanks in advance

My S2 varies between 89 and 102 (fans kick in around there) depending on whether it's in traffic, weather is hot etc... usually around 92-95 though. So I'd guess your temps are ok.

As for the water leak, check another thread here about a week ago talking about something similar.
