I've got a S1 111S and am getting a bit brassed off with the front number plate catching. Has anyone ordered replacements from Fancyplates and what size did you go for? I'm assuming the 3/4 ones will do the job.

Hi, Mine are from Fancy Plates.

This is a 3/4 plate, but this size plate does not cover the original mounting completely on the S1... but still does the job.

...Still better than smacking the hell out of your fixings.

I'm in NZ and our plates are shorter, but deeper than yours.

With mine, a previous owner has made up a 2/3 scale one (approx) and it works a treat... looks close enough to the real thing as not to be COMPLETELY illegal (though it's not strictly legal either, never had any trouble with it) and hardly ever catches on anything.

Yeah I got a 3/4 size plate from fancy plates a few weeks back. They screwed up my order taking a little longer than expected, but they did phone up to tell me this and sorted it out. The plate does'nt cover the mount completley but it's no great shakes. One other little trick I got off a copper friend of mine with a VX (yes I will admit to that), is so get adhesive felco stips form B&Q. This helps a) for those f**king speed bumps that take your plate off, as you can push it straight back on, and b)if the feds pull you over you can tell them about their f**king speed bumps and happily put on the full size plate you keep in the boot!

Beware
I have a set from Fancy plates( they are really nice plates) and I was pulled over after being followed for a few miles and told my plates where illegal as the front was too small and had the Lotus logo on the plate
So I said I was not aware that was a problem and there was no need to book me as I would change them

One of the two policemen then became very agressive telling me he did not see why I should be allowed to break the law as his wife had to pay for her plates

I pointed out that I also had paid for my plates and I ended up with a fixed penalty £30 and a threat of we will have your number taken off you if you use the plates again

He then got in his Police car and said "have a nice day"

Hi John,

I bet it was the same copper that had me for mine. Young-ish bloke was he? Grrrrr...

John and Phil,

Looked at your profiles to see where I might get caught with my plates.

I had to laugh........ you're both in North Wales I see! Notorious is not the word.

Yes we live not 5 miles apart. Still not got round to meeting up though.

My retort to the copper for my £30 fine was "oh well, an hour's pay..." That'll be my plate marked too then...

Phil.

I keep my front plate in the boot! Ripped off with a curb, couple of loose screws at the front so looks like it just happened. Hopefully that'll mean I can avoid the odd camera on the M4 and the odd congestion charge.
