I've just changed from a 380S to 410S and found there is no button on the 410 to allow you to open the exhaust flap at any time (guess it will be the same on 430 Cups too ?).
On the 410, the ECU controls it and it will only open above 4500rpm no matter which mode is activated (even Race mode). It's early days with the 410 but at the moment I'm missing the choice of having the sports exhaust sound right through the rev range as opposed to the current setup of having a 'normal' sounding car until 4500rpm when there is a sudden, massive transition to a howling monster biggrin - and similar change back when dropping below 4500rpm ! I prefer to have the flap open from idle most of the time to prevent this sudden transition.

Apparently it's due to noise regulations but there's an awful lot of recent loud / louder cars driving around with no similar rev level change point - how would the regulations be enforced anyway - noise testing on the road as well as at track days ?! rolleyes

Anybody else unhappy / is there a way around it (I understand Lotus dealers can't / aren't allowed to do anything) ?

Aston Martin Vantages have a similar arrangement where the flap opens at 4000 RPM. However removing one of the fuses opens it permanently or alternatively you can get a remote control fitted for a very modest cost which enables you to switch between normal or always open. Perhaps this sort of thing would be available for your Lotus?

I don`t pretend to know exactly, but I believe it is due to current EU regulations that the selector switch is not longer allowed.

You either do something to keep the valve open permanently (fuse?) or change the back box for something aftermarket.

This was changed for Jan 1st 2018 due to new regs, but what's the betting all the wiring is still there in the steering column, you just need to fit your own button

You can pull out hose 5 ( smallest middle one) from the charger and plug with a 4mm silicone bung and your valve is open all the time. Pull off the bung and replace the hose into the charger to revert to normal valve opening and closing operation. Saves money on the remote however I’ll be interested to hear how it works and if it’s easy to set up. Is it the KT one you’ve ordered?

Presumably being open above 4K revs is to reduce back pressure?

Its euro legislation. A few cars still had the wiring loom for the switch but most don't. I have just been through this process with my 430 Cup. Lotus are reluctant to release the parts to dealers. As And9s states above you need to cut the vacuum tube and stop it at both ends. Myself and a few others have used a small wood-screw. Make sure you cut in the right place so you can pull off the short end and therefore still put the remaining long of the tube in (should you go for a service). Its a 1 minute job. The valves will be open all the time. If you are going on a long motorway journey you can put the long end back in and it will revert to normal. As far as we know this is the only quick fix.

Yes it's the KT one and they tell me they've fitted it to several 430 Cups with no problems. It works well (so far). You can have the flap open or closed at the touch of a button (I didn't want the flap open all the time, if possible). When closed, the ECU opens the flap at 4500rpm as usual. There was no existing wiring or anything else in my 410 that could be used.

Did you order direct from KT? Who fits it and total cost? Thanks.

Has it trashed your warranty from Lotus?

No warranty issues with Lotus.

When I mentioned earlier in the thread that there is no existing wiring etc in my 410, I meant to say the wiring etc is actually there but it cannot be used because the ECU is connected in that circuit so will not allow the KT unit to work. It needs separate wiring etc. The KT item includes all ancillary wiring and parts. I understand the kit was originally developed for the Evora so is a bit more fiddly to fit to Exiges.
