My S1 elise seems to be leaking coolant from around the headgasket from the opposite end of the engine to where the cambelt and pulleys are, is it gonna die soon??

is there anywhere else it could leak from and flow around there or is it rather serious and gonna cost me ££££'s?

thanks in advance

Sounds like HGF it'll cost anywhere between £500 to £1k to get it fixed.

Don't carry on driving the car as you'll only do more damage.

Not nec headgasket asthis shows symptoms of inlet gasket failure water apears in area mentioned due to the slant of the engine, usually worse when cold.have not yet seen head gasket leak from this area yet only from the cambelt end.If your car has the black rubber gasket then this is the first place to check later cars have green gasket and very rarely give problems. This is assuming you do not have vvc engine.

thanks for the advice chaps!

drove it home from work last night and left it to cool... and nothing! no leaks or anything! i tightened up all the jubilee clips (they were ALL loose) as a precaution but it stayed dry. got my dad to take it for a drive for half an hour while i got ready to go out and then left it to cool and it still seemed dry, even this morning.

I drove it to work this morning (i never go above 3000 rpm on my way to work cos it isnt warmed up) and it appears that there is evidence of water again! I'll have a good look at dinner and get my mechanic mate out for a look.

the wet patch is on the corner of the head/block join at the highest side on the opposite end to the cam belt. I know its pretty hard to say what it is without seeing it but thanks for all your time

Get it looked at by someone who knows for peace of mind. Better to do that than keep driving it and risk causing a greater problem surely?
