Independent lotus mechanic near Lincoln
Discussion
I can't help you with a good Lotus Independent but as far as the ABS is concerned I'd have a quick look at the connectors that plug into the wheel hub, unplug them, give them a spray with WD40 and plug them back in.
Also check the wires. I had a broken one which I needed to buy a replacement (vauxhall astra part) and solder in. Only took 10 minutes to sort out. If the problem is with the sensor in the hub then you'll probably have to replace the wheel bearing as they're sealed units from what i remember. The bearing replacement isn't a big job , any garage will be able to do that. In fact it's not a very difficult DIY job. If its the ABS unit itself, that's going to be dear to sort out so fingers crossed its a broken wire or a bad connection.
If you get any of these little jobs done at a Lotus Dealer it's going to be very expensive. I'd have the basic servicing done at a dealership to keep the service history current if it's a new car or you're going to be selling it.. But for little jobs like this I'd find a good local garage.
I need a new alternator on my Exige, my nearest Lotus dealership quoted me 800 quid to supply and fit! I can buy a replacement alternator for £150 quid and either do it myself or give my local garage 50 quid and they'll do it.
