Local garage to me has just put up some pics of a S2 Elise with what they describe as the worst case of oil in the coolant they've ever seen. Thought it might be instructive. They're calling it a 1.8 VVT, which is the Toyota engine I think (?), but looking at the 03 reg I'm a bit confused as I didn't think the Toyota motors came along until 2004? Also, I assumed it would be the K-series given its head-blowing reputation.
Whatever it is (I'm thinking you will be able to tell immediately from the last pic), apparently it was still running!
Anyway, here are the pics:

It's a VVC k-series.

Looks like someone poured the whole 2 litres of milk into the engine. There's probably an empty coffee jar somewhere too biggrin

Definitely a VVC K, you can see the VVC control solenoid on the head. Certainly impressive...it’ll need a few flushes!

Holy crap that's worse than mine was, I'd be worried about a mechanic not knowing the difference between a rover and Toyota engine!

The milk container which is presumably for topping up the escaping water tells the whole story. I have zero sympathy. And two k-series cars with HGF right now...

I was mortified when I go slight mayo in mine (VVC 111s S1) and had the head done ASAP.

How the hell did the owner not pick that up!

That's horrendous! Poor engine ... If it's been run for awhile in such a condition, the cylinder head may have gone soft!
