Hi all, just after some opinions please,

Unfortunately a friend had a collision on the M5 last week resulting in his car suffering extensive damage.

It's a white 220 sport, 66 plate, FLSH, 19k miles, (was) perfect condition. Sports exhaust, black fancy wheels and a few other minor extras.

Went to view the car and it's scuffed both sides, fairly deep scrapes to cills, small split above rear arch, front nose and bonnet looks okay, rear looks okay, but both air bags went off. The near side rear wheel is pointing out 2 inches from straight. No idea what it's like underneath but assume some damage judging by the angle of the rear wheel.

I'm guessing the insurance may write it off? Does anyone have an idea of what a fair pay out would be? Or if it's worth buying back to repair?

I think I may have seen the aftermath of this - an silver BMW 5 series estate involved too?

Is the chassis still in good shape? If so might still be a goer. Issue will be acquiring spares for the knackered bits as Lotus are generally a bit hopeless at this...

Thanks for the reply. There were 2 other cars involved, one was full of Romanians who were uninsured, the other was described to me as a large pick-up type vehicle. Occurred before 7am Thurs, near the Webbington, jnct 22 to 21 N bound.

Not sure what's been bent underneath. The passenger air bag actually cracked the windscreen from the inside out. I know parts are difficult to source because only a couple of months ago the car was tapped up the back causing a small split to rear bumper. Long story short, it was an 8k insurance claim to renew rear clam.

I'm guessing they will write it off, but really wondering if it's worth buying back to repair?

Sorry to hear, main thing is you're ok.

Sounds like it needs two new clams which isn't the end of the world.

If the chassis is bent, then that's a problem, was the crash box at the front intact? A bent wheel could just be a tie rod etc

The value will be effected however you cut it as it will be a Cat something or other.
