Paul Matty - Blue Exige S2
Discussion
I have just seen the lovely blue S2 Exige at Paul Matty Cars and I am hoping to go and see the car this week. I was looking for an S, but this car looks so good, and I love the colour, does anyone know the car? What do people think of Paul Matty in general, good place to buy? Also what do people think i of the price, it seems quite near higher mileage S pricing,
thanks
thanks
Thanks for the replies
So what’s good pricing for 2006 S2 Exige / 37k miles ?
What’s a premium ??? Maybe 2-3k to get an immaculate one from a dealer?
I am assuming I’ll get piece of mind with regards to any damage / misalignment of geometry / undertray or tub damage if I buy from a dealer - no need for my own inspection ?

That sound like a fair price for a non SC Exige. Well looked after ones seem to sit around that price. So what’s good pricing for 2006 S2 Exige / 37k miles ?

Buying from PM will ensure you that the car is straight. He does only sell nice examples (unless stated) so you wont have a problem.
The fact it has just had a suspension refresh on it too, it should drive like a new car.
If it helps I paid £2k less for my ‘07 plate S2 last year, albeit from a private seller on SELOC. Mine is the same colour, touring, N/A but had 10k less miles and a few bits of extra paint done (spoiler/splitter colour coded) so fairly comparable.
Given what’s out there now and provided other common failure bits have been done and the service history stacks up £26k from a dealer seems fair, others around are a lot more! (Although there is a “S” on seloc in same colour with 23k miles asking £30k. Or an orange “S” with same miles and age for £27k, for such a small difference I’d be tempted).

Interestingly this car was on Autotrader some time ago and I enquired about it, price is similar so I suspect they are either selling on a SOR basis for owner or have bought it for less and are selling on.
Have a look on youtube, there are some good videos regarding what to look for. The older cars have a lot of areas which can corrode so you need to inspect all of these points and make sure you're happy. Also check for leaks as the seals go on them, both boot area and doors. I looked at some right dogs before buying mine that were full of water and generally shat.
The rest is common sense. Check tyres / brakes / general condition. It'll be easy to see if it's been well cared for. Also check front clam to see if it's been painted, and if so, well or badly (you'll see the orange peel effect if not done to a good standard). Good luck.

Yes, some sellers seem intent on asking unrealistic prices for them, but you'll see they don't sell and remain listed for months.Given what’s out there now and provided other common failure bits have been done and the service history stacks up £26k from a dealer seems fair, others around are a lot more! That’s why I take mine off the road and store it in a carcoon over the winter. So many mock me for doing it but these cars are not everyday cars that are designed to be used in the salt etc.

Completely disagree. 13yr old 111R ran every day come rain or shine. The ONLY thing to be wary of is standing water, other than that it is no different than any other car, in the usability stakes. As to corrosion etc, no issues with mine either, just needs to be maintained as would any car
Each to ones own I suppose. Composite Guru said:

Each to ones own I suppose. I'd rather buy one off the guy who keeps it in a cocoon than someone who uses it in the same way as a ford fiesta.

Each to ones own I suppose. I don't want to go clagging the wheel arches up with loads of sticky snot so just take the thing off the road when it gets colder.
I did 4000 miles in it last year so made up for the time it was off the road last year.
So many people bh about me taking it off the road but I've bought the car for long term ownership so don't want to be replacing rusty parts just because I cant wait for spring.
Cleaning and maintaining cars in the freezing cold isn't on my list of things I like to do so I avoid this by not using it. Ok I have a daily but that gets a quick wash every few weeks but nothing special.
