Exige S2........ or S2 Elise
Discussion
I am looking to buy a bright coloured Exige S2 , and am trying to find the prices of the various option packs available in period . Any info on this subject would be gratefully received. I have already used the PH Search function , so understand what each option pack includes .
Would I be better off waiting for 2019 spring before buying , as there seems little on the market at present . Also with all the Brexit uncertainty , prices may come down ??
Was toxic Green available during the production run of the n/a 189bhp Exige S2 ?
Is the Chrome Orange metallic or is it a solid orange ?
Finally how different is the Elise 189 Toyota 189 bhp to drive compared to a 189bhp Exige ?
If they are very similar to drive , I could maybe save some money by going for a brightly coloured Elise instead ? When did toxic green and chrome orange become available on the S2 Elise ?
Thank you

Good luck is all I can say!
I searched for an orange or green Exige for about 2 years and that was about 6 years or so ago when the market was far more plentiful and the Exige hadn't become the appreciating "keep it in your garage" piece that it seems to be today!
Hen's teeth to get one in the year/spec/mileage/price range you want, add in the 2 most popular colours and you really are looking for a unicorn!
You may get lucky with a broad enough price bracket and the ability to be quick off the mark when something is advertised that fits.
When you talk of 189 Exige -v- 189 Elise, if you are limiting your Exige search further still with NA cars, you'll have even less to aim at!
Minor differences between the Elise and Exige NA's to be honest. Suspension tweaks and tyres (which would probably have been changed on either model by this age). The aero on the Exige makes little to no different. Really more about what you like the look of.

Thank you
I have a 220 Cup in Toxic Green. From what I'm aware its a new colour in the S3 range. Thank you
The closest you will get is Krypton Green. It looks similar but its a solid colour not pearlescent.
Still a great colour though.
Chrome Orange is metallic and looks wonderful in the sunlight.
If you can afford it go for the Exige. There is a reason why they cost more money. Personally prefer the N/A especially for track and you can now get a aftermarket plug n play ecu which allows you to give the car some mid range which will help for road driving.
Get yourself on some of the usual large forums like Exiges.com, Seloc etc.

Personally I disagree with the NA comment. I didn’t find the NA any quicker than my 111s. Both felt a bit sheep in wolfs clothing. The supercharger was nicely progressive in its power and gave the car what it needed in my opinion. If you can afford it go for the Exige. There is a reason why they cost more money. Will B recently had 2 S2 Exige in both colours recently and had a pic for them both together.
I'll try and dig it out.

It’s yellow? And £22.5k for an NA 65k mike exige?! And arguably the yellow and silver ones were always the cheaper end of the spectrum. https://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php...
I bought my S2 exige for £16300 I think. That was about 7 years ago with about 40k on the clock, supercharged, ohlins, oil cooler and a shed load of other upgrades.
Thank you all for your replies.
Gofasterroccco , thanks in particular for that link
Seems v pricey though ..... just missed out yesterday on a pristine 24,000 mile solar yellow car from a main dealer for £26k with warranty .
The search continues ..... all advice gratefully received.
Looking through all the other options , I , even more than previously , recognise just how wonderful my 143,000 mile series 1 MX 5 is .

I also have to disagree with you on this. I owned a S2 Exige N/A for a while and was able to match SC versions with very capable drivers behind the wheel no problem at all. Mine only had the lower cam change done. With a proper manifold, sports CAT and plug n play reprogrammed ECU it would have been even better. This is on track though. The only time i felt that the N/A lacked anything was with a passenger, boot full and on the road. You would have to knock it down a few gears to get it wound up which can become tiresome.

what is this magical ECU you can buy that releases more mid range...would be interested in this?If you can afford it go for the Exige. There is a reason why they cost more money. I'm guessing he means lowering the cam change over rpm which can be done and makes the 'step' less noticeable. There are a few complete ECU replacement options out there now though.

Thornburn, no i do not mean lower the can change point. I mean a complete ECU that has been used in the Elise Trophy/ LKUP cars for the past 2 seasons. This along with a descend manifold will increase the torque. There are a few complete ECU replacement options out there now though.
