Easy fella...
First rule of domestic warfare. Don't let her define the field of battle or the rules. If you do, you'll lose your money and possibly your sanity.
So, you two bought a house and now she wants you to buy her out? Great. People in Hell want ice water. Just because someone wants something doesn't mean they're going to get it.
If she wants to walk away from the house then she's going to have to be reasonable about the terms under which this is going to happen. First, she's going to have to give up the idea of some sort of "lump sum" settlement unless you have bags of money lying around which it doesn't sound like you do.
So, once you work out what is a reasonable "buy out" figure, chop that up into bits that amount to a doable monthly payment for you. Also, let her know that in the light of her adulterous behavior, you'll expect her to forego any sort of interest.
Then, if you need to, find a flatmate you can stand for long enough to pay her off.
There, problem solved. That is, assuming your place has enough room for a flatmate. If the place is a bit small, you might even be able to sweeten the deal by offering weekend rides in the Lotus. ;->
Good luck and don't let the $*&£ get you down!

Jon, that sounded like a man speaking from experience !?
Oh yes. Back in the US, things are INCREDIBLY biased towards women. Basically, family court is just a tool for angry feminists to take out their anger and frustration on men.
It doesn't sound like the victim in this case has kids and, if not, that will definitely work in his favor by limiting the carnage the ex can wreak on his financial life.
Fight the good fight brothers!

I like the way you think, Jon.![]()
Very good advice.
One thing to note - do not under any circumstances default on your mortgage payments. Your credit rating will suffer enormously and you will have extreme difficulty getting a mortgage or credit card subsequently. And, of course, you might lose your house.
And I agree, why should you be the one to buy her out?
If the worst comes to the worst sell the house, split
the equity and then rent for a while. At least that way you don't lose the Lotus.
Hey, good point. See how good women are at making us see things in their terms? I didn't think of just selling the house.
Now, here's the interesting bit. If you sell the house, you'll have to decide how to split the proceeds.
If you sell the house for more than you paid for it (which is a fair assumption these days), be sure to give her back only what she paid in. She shouldn't profit from the sale as the result of her deceit.
For example, if you paid 50,000 for the house and there is 40,000 outstanding on the mortgage, that means you've both paid in 10,000 (5,000 each). Now, let's say you sell the house for 60,000 and pay off the mortgage leaving a balance of 20,000. She's still only entitled to get back the 5,000 she paid in. The 15,000 left over is all yours. Remember, she has no moral right to any profit that came about as the result of her destruction of your relationship.
Don't let her take a penny that isn't hers.

My car is a aug 99 (2000my with 12 spoke alloys)
Titanium with black leather, blue roof, driving lamps, alloy winders, kenwood mask cd/tuner, cobra upgrade alarm(cat1),lotus sports exhaust(oh my, what a noise !!), cat bypass pipe and brand new cat about to be fitted(see other posting), 9400 miles, no track days, six months tax and 12months MOT, is due for a service though(A).
is the third car in the house and was my toy, hence virtually all dry miles, always garaged, mint interior, mint exterior, goes like stink and looks awesome, can try putting a picture on the web if I can work out how to do it.
looking for £17k, there are cheaper but even Lotus garage said mine was one of the tidiest they had ever seen.

It takes a while to sort all this stuff out, so in the meantime you can use the Elise to get a new girlfriend, drive it all the time and keep giving girls rides in it, and you'll probably get a nice one who will help buy out the house for you, in return for more rides
It can't hurt to try....
Good luck

That *uc*in deceatfull *ock *ukk*n cow! times infinity!
Refuse to sell or buy remember once you own something there is no legal requirement to change.
See how low she goes and tell her why and how much you have to get out of this to Keep the Elise. If she will go down enough buy it and *u*k her loss!
What does her younger *i*k drive?
Also you could offer a payment plan that suits you but dont get your hopes up!
PS.A half brick through a window really rattles someones cage!
