Tricky Elise S1 starting problem

Heres an interesting problem. I wondered if anyone has experienced the same symptoms.
If I go to start the car as you normally would, it fires and dies immediately. Classic symptoms of no fuel pump running.
However, the fuel pump can be heard priming as soon as the key is turned.
If I turn the key and let the pump prime until it stops and then start, it will start and run perfectly. It seems to do it every time.
If I forget and try to do a normal start. It won't re-start until I leave the system to un-pressurise and the pump primes again.
Immobiliser is disabled. MFRU looks fine. All connections & earths look ok. The fact that the pump always primes kind've eliminates most of the usual connection problems. Any ideas?
