Does the new Lotus exposed gear shifter fit on older cars?
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a 2006 Exige cup 240, which is absolutely brilliant... however I'd love to upgrade the gear shifter to improve the precision of the shifting. It's fine on road, but I find that I need to be quite careful on track when I'm trying to rush from gear to gear a bit quicker.
There are some lovely aftermarket options available, my favourite being alitech. However it's rather pricey at £1200 or so, and I'd like to keep the car as lotus OEM as possible really. Which leads me to my question...
Is the new Elise' beautiful exposed shifter linkage and centre console backwards comparable with older cars? As far as I know the engine is going to be pretty similar... and obviously the chassis itself hasn't changed for many years.
If it is... where the hell do I buy one? Can't find anything about them online...
Cheers,
Chris

Deroure don't have it listed for the Elise, but part numbers are the same as for the Exige V6.

I'd wager the Alitech option will be cheaper, and no idea how easy it would be to link up the Lotus shifter to the 2ZZ engine either.

Having looked into these a bit more, I've read that they're finicky to set up correctly, and even through the install looks simple it's can actually be quite tricky.
So, I'm thinking of modding my original parts to more securely bolt them down to the chassis. Supposedly there are some unused bolt holes in the OEM shifter where you can bolt through and get rid of some of the flex. Think I originally found that on a US blog somewhere... anybody tried it?
