I am trying to find out if i can get a child seat to fit in my VX220.
Sorry, i know this is the lotus section, but i believe the elise uses the same seat and VX220.org doesn't seem to be very active at the moment and i am not getting a reply.
My eldest is now 6 and desperately wants to go in the car. I have had it for 15 years and have always said that i would keep it forever.
There have been a couple of suggestions on the forums, including the maxi cosi rodi and the britax romer, but both of these had a big gap down the back, so didn't seem very safe,
The Recaro Young Sport seemed to fit well, but there is an adjuster knob at the side of the seat that sits right under the handrbake!
I am almost at the point in giving up and if i do it is making me question keeping the car for much longer. I know the manual states that child seats are not recommended, but as long as i can find one that fits the seat, i don't see an issue with it.
The car is only a special occasion/weekend car and if i do take them out it will only be on very short journeys.
Can anyone help before i give up!?

I use a "Cybex Solution X-Fix" in my S2 Elise. Right now it's on its lowest headrest setting because my daughter isn't even four yet. I think it will stand a bit proud when I start to crank the head rest up, but hopefully not unsafely so. I'll have a play this afternoon and take some pictures if you like.
The only real problem with it is that it wont fit in the boot. The back-rest will go if there's nothing else in there, but not the base bit with it.

I am looking for a child seat at the moment. Do you have Probax seats if so does the seat sit on the sides or does it fit in the seat. Thanks
I use a Cybex Pallas-Fix 1-2-3 seat in mine, which has standard cloth seats (S1 Elise). Obviously no isofix, but fits snugly and without issue. Clearly it's not going in the boot either, but where would the boy be?
Another thought I've had is ear protection - mine's loud enough to have to raise my voice - a longer jaunt could be uncomfortable for little ears. I'm going to play with my Peltors this weekend and see if they fit him - if so, we can have comms - otherwise it'll be Peltor Kids defenders.

The first picture (with the seat on a lower setting) there's no gap. The second picture with the head-rest all the way up there is a bit of a gap - maybe an inch and a half at the widest point. It doesn't feel like there's any danger of the seat moving sideways; if you were worried about the strength of the back of the child-seat in a rear-end impact, you could easily enough pad the gap with something to spread the load - a folded blanket would probably do it.

Thanks. Looks like the X-Fix is discontinued now and they do an X2-fix instead.
Will try and see if i can get to a shop that has one in to try
I got mine from Mothercare if they do the replacement. They were fine with me taking it out to the car to try it before I bought it. Will try and see if i can get to a shop that has one in to try

I asked in 1999 after ordering my S1 Elise. The dealer called the factory for advice on recommended child seats. A long silence and much laughter later, Lotus suggested I wait for the car to be delivered and then try at the local Mothercare shop.
The Evora 400 manual actually has 3 compatible car seats listed, including what positions (front or rear, and how far back the front seat can be if the seat is in the back). The one that suited my intended use is no longer in production though and not keen on the idea of a second hand one, so guess I'll have to try some out. There are a few listed here: https://wiki.seloc.org/a/Children
