My car seems to have developed a clunking noise at the rear on bad roads. This seems to have increased over time but it is fine on smooth surfaces. What is the opinion out there on the need to replace the rear shock absorbers?
If the answer is yes do it then which ones, I only use the car on the road not on the track.
Is it an easy job on the Elise?

Get the S2 replacements - seem to get the nod from all and sundry for road and occasional track use. Hangar111 stock them and I believe you can get them supplied from most Lotus specialists.

Dunno if you should only fit rears or all round though - I believe quite a straightforward job with the right tools, but you will probably need a geo done to get the set-up right afterwards.

Replacing with the S2 stuff is generally considered the way to go, however if you can't afford the £600 to have it fitted and geo'd speak to your nearest friendly specialist garage and ask if they have any good 2nd hand ones that you fit to see if it improves. Shouldn't cost the earth, and no messing around with the geometry to

Thanks, it seems that S2 stuff is the way to go then. I have looked on Hanger 111 and they have three sets for the Elise. Could someone be a little more specific about what S2 stuff is please. Remember it needs to fit a MK 1 Elise.
Thanks a lot.

He has fitted dozens of sets to elises - and owns a *heavily* modified elise himself.
