OK, I've been a knob. I have a series two and a half elise and the boot cable has snapped. Many, many things I need are in the boot, and I'm at someone else's house. Stupidly, it never occurred to me that it would snap, it's been sticky for a week or so but usually I just needed to jiggle it a bit or close it and then pull a bit harder to open it. I'd looked at the catch and it seemed to be moving freely and judging by the amount of gloopy cack that came off on my hands, was suitably greased. The release handle is now flopping uselessly about and I'm not hugely enthusiastic about driving 55 miles to my nearest Lotus dealer.

Apparently there's some way in, bearing in mind that I'm at someone else's house and my socket set is in the boot. Anyone have any ideas as to how, I can get into the boot?

Cheers

I'd call a dealer and speak to a tech. From a quick search most people recommend lifting the car and removing the rear undertray (and possibly boot floor) and either trying to find the end of the cable or reaching right up to open the latch manually.

Rather you than me! Good luck wink

on exige (so assume same on elise):
- jack up car
- remove rear driver side wheel
- pull back wheel arch liner
- if you're lucky, cable will have snapped in front of this bit of the cable run.
