Hi all

Just got the bad news back from the testers that me little baby has failed - but not for what I expected.

Surprisingly it didn't require the Cat-bypass pipe to be replaced with CAT, as apparently the Elise isn't listed as requiring this (!!!)

However as i'm currently using a Halfords plastic fuel cap as I recently left the original at a Shell Station (DOH!) It has failed on this??? Apparently it doesn't create a good enough seal.

I've just missed one on E-Bay (Doh again) and was wondering if anyone has any good ideas to avoid paying the ridiculous OTT price that Lotus demand???

Where are you based?

Maybe you could borrow someone elses fuel cap to get through the MoT - this would also buy you some time to source another one.

James,

Are you saying it passed the emissions test, or wasn't tested?

Swork's is a good buddy of mine. If he doesn't see this, I'll ask him tonight.

Can't imagine what he's doing, NOT surfing PH. It can't be work!

Maybe this should be in another thread, BUT - how can a post 92 car (i.e. requires a CAT) not fail an MOT having a bypass pipe on? I don't understand? Does that mean you can bypass the Cat(s) on Elises (S1 AND S2?) and it doesn't affect the MOT test?!?!?
Confused

Sorry for not replying sooner chaps - funny work hours of late.

The thing about the CAT surprised me also. All I can tell you is that the tester stated that the Elise is not on his list of vehicles that need to comply with the stricter emissions test. The owner of the establishment also seemed surprised by this but assured me that it could go through the re-test without the hassle of swapping over.

As far as I'm aware all post '92 vehicles must comply with the stricter test - but my knowledge of such matters is not great

The only explanation I can come up with is that since they did not have the time to swap the bypass pipe over (as I had asked) - they just passed it on this aspect to save potentially pissing off a regular customer

afaik, only SVA'd vehicles post 92 get a less strict emissions test.

I'm going to give away my ignorance here - but wouldn't all Elises have to have been SVA'd ???

I think only 50 of the Sport 160 S1s are SVA'd everything else whole type approved.

Cheers, Tim

1) Tim - thanks for your kind offer, but i've just acquired a Nissan 200sx drift toy and the filler cap fits the liz and is MOT compliant!!!

2) I'm still not sure why I don't need to put the CAT back on - What's all this about Elise's not being SVA'd - I don't know what is meant by being 'Type' approved either??? I'm just a bit thick really!!!
