Exige Owners - Where Did You Defect From?
Discussion
Greetings from a potential newbie! Hoping for a postive response to put my mind at rest ...
I had a TVR and I've just had Caterham Superlight R400. I know that Exiges are one of the very best handling cars available but can they feel slightly slow and underpowered? I really do believe that the new Exige is the right car for me but I'm worried that coming from a 0-100mph in 9 secs car I may get frustrated with the relative lack of performance ...
Has anyone here come from a similar TVR or Caterham background? Does the awesome handling and cornering speed compensate for the deficiency in outright grunt?

Hi Al, i had a TVR right before the Exige and i wouldnt go back to the TVR at all. The only car i have had that i miss over this car was my 911 turbo, only for the grunt and noise. The Exige is truely awesome. I dont think on the road you would miss the 0-100mph performance at all.
Funnily enough i was just going through the classified section looking at caterhams just like yours. I would love a blast in one. Might have to find some one nearer to me and swap for the day.

I had a Maserati 3200GT before the Exige and a 911 turbo before that and do occassionally miss the sheer kick in the pants both of those cars could deliver. To state the obvious, the Exige is a very different beast which delivers its thrills in a different way but IMHO is ultimately capable of being more fun more of the time, so I have had absolutely no second thoughts about the choice.
But vs a Caterham R400, I would have thought it is a very different set of trade-offs and the major win for the Exige would be practicality (seems strange to be saying that about an Exige!)

I had an standard S2 Elise before the Exige, and a 911 Carrera 2 before the Elise.
As has been said before, I miss the 911 for the noise and the fact it was just a completely iconic car.
However, just put a Lotus Stage1 exhaust on the Exige now, and I'm pretty happy that all is better in the noise department. Handling and point to point "squirting", the Exige is far superiour. Driving to the Netherlands tomorrow infact !
