I miss my elise a whole lot and am eager to get involved once again.

im a bit out of the loop - please can you give me an update on the S2 model specs?

From what i have seen on the sites i think i wll be most interesed in the Sports Tourer or the 111S - please can you tell me the differences, pros, cons etc, as well as how much i should expect to pay for an early one (im not very flush at the moment)?

Cheers

I have an S2 Sports Tourer, but I think I'd now prefer the extra power of the 111S than all the trimmings in the Sports Tourer. Although you could get a Sports Tourer tuned up which I will probably do!

Hi

Are you able to tell me the differences, do they look and drive the same?

I have an S2 Sports Tourer
As far as i am aware they both look the same from the outside except the 111s says 111s on the back and has slightly more swanky weels.

The sports tourer is basicaly the standard car with a few extra bits inside such as 4 speakers, carpets, leather seats Etc.

The advantage of the 111s is that it is tuned better and so the performance is better although I am sure I read somewhere on hear that the standard car is easyer to upgrade further than the 111s is (Dont quote me on that though). I am not sure what you get interior wise with the 111s but I would have thought it would be comperable to the Sports tourer.

As far as prices go I think you can get a reasonably good S2 sports tourer for around 16k these days. and I would asume a 111s would be 2 - 3 k more than that. Have a look at the clasifieds on hear as they are usualy a good indicator but look out for ones that are significantly cheaper as there are a lot of them out there that have been crashed.

Thanks for that. Are you also able to tell me if it comes withaircon - my S1 didnt, and as i used it all year round it would have been useful in the winter!

Air con is an option on the 111S...so some have it, some don't!

I'm currently thinking about a 111S and to be honest I don't know if I want air con or not. Basically, if I find 'THE' car, then if it has air con or not will not worry me!

"It is tuned better" is a bit subjective beechy.

If I might perhaps be a little more objective... Ignoring the soft furnishings (wheels and trim) the main difference between the 111s and the ST is in the oily bits.

The ST runs the stock 118bhp K-Series with regular 5 speed 'box, whereas the 111s runs the VVC K-Series (143bhp S1 vs. 156bhp S2 IIRC - someone correct me if I'm wrong) with close ratio 5 speed 'box.

So basically you're looking at more grunt and a gearbox that's designed to keep you in the VVC range more easily in the 111s.

The engine in the ST (if untinkered with) will be the same as in your stock S1 (assuming it was standard). Personally I find mine (std + B&C S/S cans + Hurricane induction) a great laugh and wanting for little. Temptation is always there for more but at the moment I'm quite happy with it.

As I'm sure you already know from running an S1, the key thing for any Elise is how well it's been maintained and has it been stacked. Buy on condition and history and above all get it checked by someone who knows before you hand over the readies.

Not Quite S works.

S1 had std. k series engine, or in 111S guise VVC with CR box.
S2 had std. k engine and was fitted as standard with CR box, or in 111S guise VVC. I recall that for the S2 111S the gearbox had, in fact, longer ratios than the standard S2.

Because the standard car does not have the more complicated VVC arrangement the scope and opportunity for 'upgrading' the engine is arguably easier, especially if you're considering headwork. (Why have the VVC if you intend to bin it!)

Hope this helps with adding to the confusion.

Regards, Neil

It all seems quite techy.
All i want is a fun car that i can use day to day.

I deffo dont want the bottom of the range car which leaves me with the ST or the 111s - im keen on the Air con as the S1 was warm with the roof on, and i deffo want leather.

Probably the best plan for me is to do an autotrader search with aircon as an option - hopefully something will come up for 16k - 18k.

One other thing, i wasnt aware the S2 had the same engine as the S1 - not a problem, just thought it was changed!

The goodies you get on an S2 Sport Tourer are standard on the S2 111s. However, at the end of 2003 the '04 spec 111s was released and lecy windows and central locking as well. Also additional sound proofing and better build quality i think. Pre '04 spec 111s was available as a 111 as well, this was without the leather and a few other bits i can't remember. Someone may be able to help on here?

IMHO the wheels on the S2 111s, set the car off a treat, i believe they are called arachned or something?

The performance is a step up from the standard car and i find it very driveable. I had a S1 111s before and though the turn in is not as sharp on the S2, it just needs you to rethink your corners a little to enjoy it to the full. Good luck and i hope you get the 111s!

The new S2 111R and Exige use the 189 bhp Toyota Engine but all other S2's still use the K Series

Take a look in the PH classifieds - always a very good source. depending on mileage etc you could get an early S2 111S in good nick for probably £18k. Then as mileage, air con, hard top etc get stacked on they go up (but not by much)

Before you make the choice....Why not consider the 135R, only 150 made and comes with CR box, Lotus sport suspension with adjustable ride heights, OZ alloys, A048 tyres, drilled discs, alcantara seats and dash, and obviously the 135BHP engine, which is easily raised to around 150BHP with just exhaust change and good induction kit.
I changed from an S1 exige to the 135R as I needed a little more everyday, and I am well chuffed.

Good call - if I ever upgrade to an S2 (which is looking less likely the more I read about their handling vs. S1) this would be the one for me. In yellow with black ally's - GRRRRR

this is one thing I can't understand. The 135R, which is in theory a step up from a 111S, has 25 less horse power (approx) than a 111S?

I appreciate the 135R sounds track based in as much as adjustable ride height, A048s etc. etc, but is it still not slower than a 111S (which, being an Elise, has already very good handling characteristics) ?

Hi

Is the 135R cheaper than the 111s?
Budget is still important to me!

Thanks
