Why do the instructions for fitting stainless steel brakes hoses (to be applied to the caliper bolts) specify grade A131 when this is apparently pipe sealant?

Does anyone know of a shop in the East Midlands that actually sells this stuff? Does anyone know of any good (cheaper) alternatives?

Pipes have threads too. I bought mine mail order from somewhere, 'fraid I can't remember where now but it's not that rare.

I assume it's specified as it has the right properties for the job - heat range, appropriate gooeyness, hold strength, anti corrosion properties etc. The caliper bolts go into the hub which is aluminium, so you don't want to overdo it or you risk damaging threads when you come to get it apart next.

have a look in the elise faq website . . . there's a source there . . .

I've seen a couple of wrecked hub carriers caused by steel (caliper) bolt corrosion in the aluminium hub carrier . . . not the end of the world, but completely avoidable . . .
