Halfords will supply for £74

Where would you place the unit?
I was thinking about this very same sub, the only place i can think to fix would be somewhere in the passanger footwell? dunno really

that sub looks quite good. i've heard of some people putting it behind the drivers seat. it is quite small so might fit. not sure if it comes with wires though. if halfords do it for that cheap then it's pretty good.

Karlos- do you have any pics of your setup and wiring it up??

Could end up sounding a bit chav from outside though, when it makes all the bodywork/aluminium rattle..?

that's the problem. don't want to look or soud chav. nothing more annoying than Corsas/Novas that make your boot lid rattle with their bass. just feel that a bit of a deeper sound with some tweeters and mid bass speakers would enhance the sound.

I went into the local store - they didnt stock it but they looked up the sub on their PC and said they would get it in in three days if i wanted it. and yes £73.14 inc. vat and no P&P.

But i didnt buy as i had the same reservations as you, I have a S2,which the shelf is rather shallow, but i was thinking high up in the footwell, it should be safe there(not too much wiring either) but need to get the tape measure out - just guessing at the mo

Regards

Geoff

P.S it's best to get a sub type speaker as far away from your ear as possible due to the elise cabin being small and the wavelenghs you are trying to produce cannot be allowed to form correctly. You will get an increase in some mid/lower frequencies, i just hope they will be nice ones... as you say a bit more mid and bass would be nice.

Hi,

I had this very Sub fitted in my S1, then my S2. It fits well on the shelf behind the seats and using Velcro to attach it makes it less prone to rattle and easy to remove for cleaning.

It's not very powerful, so I don't think you get much chav affect.

Fitting in an S1 is slightly easier as getting to the battery is more straightforward.

I've taken it out of the S2 now, and will be fitting it to my S2 Exige when I can be bothered!!!

I have the standard four (I think) speaker set-up that comes in the Exige, and have the bass set just right, but if I turn it up any more it makes the shelf rattle. So how do you get a sub in there and not make stuff rattle?

P.S. I braked hard before, and the speaker cover flew off behind me, thought I had broken something the amount of noise it made hitting the metal floor! Can you just push the blaupunkt ones back on?

if you want a half decent stereo in the Elise then the above sub is very good. Stick it on the rear bulkhead shelf. Get a decent head unit and run the low frequencies to the sub and the rest to the other speakers. Alpine are generally the most powerful head units with internal amps.

So Alpine MP3 head + powered sub = good enough sound for most.

Have a look at your speakers - if they have blue cones then they are Alpine jobbies - they will handle more power than any head unit can give them, so theres no point in upgrading them....you could spend £100-500 a pair and still not notic much difference without an external amp, so dont waste youre cash

If you have the el cheapo black paper coned 'Eurotech' speakers rated at 5w rms per channel etc, then rip them out straight away and get some half decent ones in there - 4" front, 5 1/4" rear - have a look on somewhere like www.caraudiodirect.co.uk and pay around £50-70 a pair....that will do you.

Get some cable, a sheet of dynamat etc behind the speakers along with some wadding etc (old hollow fibre pillow will do) etc and away you go.

dont spend big $$$ in an Elise - as soon as you ; press accelerator, take roof off, hear rattle from doors etc then its wasted...but to get *some* bass and a non distorted sound, then a small powered sub, decent head unit, and optionally upgraded speakers will sort it

I followed Bogie's advice and installed a Kenwood KSCWA62RC powered subwoofer behind the seats.
I also changed all speakers at something better than the eurotec ones.
Finally I installed a Sony MP3 player that has subwoofer control and crossover for the speakers.
The sound is really good (No way as good as Bogie's £2K custom job) and you can hear the music loud and clear even at above 100mph without the roof.

Thanks for the advice Bogie.

I had Sinclaires fit mine.
They did an amazing job as no cables are at view and nothing rattles.

I fitted one of these:

Works great in my S1 with:

With it's sub control, EQ's and adjustable x-overs makes a huge difference & didn't need to change the standard speakers. Easy enough to install to with only 3 wires. Sits on the rear shelf behind pas seat.
