How would you value a Honda Elise conversion when compared to the standard car? Is it worth more because it is seen as an (S1/S2), or less because it is non standard and like any modified car, potentially a big liability?

For me they're definitely worth more than standard cars, but nowhere near as much more as the conversion costs. Prices tend to look artificially high because people who do Honda conversions also tend to install a lot of other desirable upgrades but I'd happy pay an extra few thousand for a K20 car. If the price gap got to ~£4k and I wanted the power, I'd think about doing it myself instead.

Mods for the Elise are so common and so well documented that "standard" is no longer really viewed as a positive attribute by the market.

Agree with kambites mainly, only exception would be for the special editions (maybe S1 only) such as Sport 135, Sport 160, Sport 190, Exige, etc.

The price of those seems to be affected negatively by non-originality, I have to claim a vested interest here with an original 160 in the garage but I have seen a couple of examples of what I'm talking about.

Enough to confidently state that if I were offered a fully finished honda conversion on mine for free, I still wouldn't take it. However I would also be happy to shell out to convert a stock S1 to Honda/Audi - the Honda especially would've been an ideal lump for Lotus to fit from day one as an option.

I think the cheapest honda s1 I've seen for sale was around £15k - and that was a cat c repaired one. I'd guess 17-18k for a basic car private, creeping up over £20 for higher spec and 22-23 from the likes of Jon Seal maybe.
