Has anybody done the NC500?

Any tips on things to not miss?

We will be doing this last week in July, starting at Loch Ness, travelling up the east coast, following the coastal road north and down the west coast, over 5 days.

It's bloody fantastic in an Elise! Can't really help you re places to visit though, I was just driving and driving.

If you've not found this thread already this is where you need to ask: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Not sure on the route the 500 takes, but used to do the 'Scotland' trip every year on 'bike, or Caterham......never got to do it in the Elise.

I used to start from Cumbria, and go right round thro' Aviemore, and across the top to turn down the west coast at Cape Wrath. If you are going to start at Loch Ness, you'll pop out onto the A9 just above Aveimore, turn back to Aveimore, on pop up the ski road ON THE Cairngorm. Best route for me was thro' to Altnaharra, then left at the top to Kyle of Tongue, visit Smee Cave, then down to Scourie, in Sutherland, (if you can't get out to Cape Wrath, or Sandwood Bay). Ahead of you south lies some of the best and most beautiful coastline anywhere. I used to stop at Ullapool, Poolewe, Inverewe. Great road down Loch Maree, into Torridon, and down to Appplecross, Plockton. Over the Bealach na Ba, then turn round and come back over the 'proper'way. 5 sisters of Kintail, Glen Coe....

Have a good trip.
