s2 111s (160bhp) engine in s1 111S (143bhp)
Discussion
As far as I know the block and bottom end is the same, so it'd probably be easier to put a 160 head with its associated ancillaries onto the 143 block than swap the whole engine over. As above you'd also need to change the ECU which would mean fiddling with the wiring loom.
Probably quite a lot of work for relatively little gain.

s1 needs a new engine, s2 one is available. garage happy to fit it and am sure they are aware of ecu/wiringchanges, just wondered if anyone had any practical experience.
Have a look on SELOC, I seem to remember seeing a few threads on there about it. IIRC, the usual thing to do is to replace the whole engine wiring loom with an S2 one rather than trying to splice the new ECU into the S1 loom.
143vvc and the 160vvc are the technically the same engine
The 160vvc has different stronger pistons and the head has tree angle valve seats and it uses a 52mm throttle body
The s2 160vvc uses a lotus ecu and loom
But if you have a 143vvc just stick the 52mm throttle body on and a decent air filter as no real point fitting the 160vvc

Has anyone swapped an s1 k-series for an s2? Asides from having 17 more ponies, are there any issues to be aware of?
Also remember MGR got sneaky and starting using PS (metric hp) instead of imperial. So there is no such thing as a 160bhp K-Series, it was 160PS or 158bhp. Only a 2hp difference, but makes it only 15hp difference between the two engines.well the old engine would probably have needed new pistons, definitely needed new valves and possibly some other stuff checking at least or at risk. So with the price and availability of the 160 engine, they have proposed to put that in instead. He hasn't said anything about loom and ecu but it doesn't appear to be phasing him although I am not sure if he even has the engine as yet.
well it seems the original engine isn't too bad - one slight nick in a piston (nowhere near the edge) that will be polished out, new valves and seats and cost of that (plus new gasket) is a similar amount to the secondhand engine. He said the rest of the engine looked very good indeed, but thanks for the help guys.
incidentally, he was struggling to find a decent k-series. Does anyone know of any recommendations as a source for these, either original or reconditioned? There should still be plenty floating about you would have thought or are they all going to scrap inside battered Rover 45s etc?
