Hi

The MIL light on my S2 111S has been flashing ever since I changed the timing belt last year.
The car is running smoothly.

Is there anyone with a suitable code reader willing to pay a visit to Mickleover (SW Derby) one evening next week in order to help me diagnose the problem? Beer waiting in payment.

You could get yourself a cheap obd2 bluetooth dongle for less than £10 or pop down to unit 4 in Burton on trent and Gav there will take a look.

It's worth buying a reader dongle. They're only about a fiver (assuming you have a smart phone to connect to it).

Best value tool I ever bought. smile

Thanks for both of your responses.
I shall phone Unit4 tomorrow.

Anyone able to provide a link to one of these dongles you mention. I've looked before but wasn't sure I found the right thing.

This is the one I have, I think: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-ELM327-OBD2-V1-5-Ca...

I leave it plugged into the car all the time. Whenever I get in and start the engine, my phone connects to it and starts up a dashboard showing various useful sensor information. A word of warning though - they apparently don't work with iPhones (I'm not sure about Macbooks, etc) because Apple don't implement Bluetooth correctly; you need a wifi one if you want to use it with an iPhone.

It plugs into a cable dangling down in the depths of the passenger footwell.

Is the cable in place already or would I need to buy that as well?

It's already there. All you need is the dongle and an android phone/tablet or windows/linux laptop.

Cheers. I've ordered a wifi-version of the dongle.

I mostly use an app called "Torque" on my Android phone. There's a free version which will do all the fault code stuff or you can pay something like £2 to get a nicer user interface and some better logging/sensor reading facilities.

I believe there are similar free/cheap apps for most other platforms. Alternatively, if you're reasonably technical you can simply talk to it using a terminal emulator.
