Can anyone advise as to typical running costs for a S2 Elise in terms of servicing costs/intervals, MPG, tyres, brakes etc?

I am basically just after some guidance as to what it will cost me to run an Elise as a second car, covering approx 6k/year.

not an expensive car to run, mpg maybe 30
tyres should last 15-20k, £400 a set
servicing at independent is 190 odd a year for first 2 years,
brake pads should last 20k
insurance is 750 quid for me

Many thanks.

What are the reccommended service intervals in terms of mileage?

Also, are there any common problem areas/faults/things that are likely to need replacing?

I am just trying to find me feet in the Lotus world and don't want to be caught out so any advice is much appreciated!

A lot depends on driving style. I replaced my rears at 17K. Car is now on 30K, and rears should last about the same again. Still on the original fronts and I'm still on the factory original brake pads although I'm just about to change them.

MPG - you can get up to 40mpg on a run. I regularly see 300 miles from a tank, but then mine is my everyday car and it sits at 3000 rpm on the motorway.

Servicing at main dealer: 'A' roughly £275, a 'B' roughly £375 and the 'C' you should allow up to £500.
You can knock a third or more off these at independants by shopping around. Tip - things like brake pads are a total con at main dealers, e.g. £140 for rear brake pads fitted! Buy EBC Greenstuffs mail order for £45 and get a local garage to fit them; 10 minute job!

Overall, they are very reasonable to run.

I use Horizon Motorsport to service my standard S2.

They charge £100 for an A service. £195 for a B service. £350 for a C service.

The servicing is every 12 months or 9,000 miles in the following order: A A B A A C A A B A A C etc...

yeah, 250 is about the norm for me too, mind you I am still learning the pleasures of that second cam thingey. But 30 mpg aint too bad, considering the fun it brings!!!!!!!!!!!!
