What would you buy if you are forced to choose between the following cars…? wink
The purpose is a second sportscar that is fun to drive on the street and also do a monthly trip to the Nurburgring or other track days (Spa, Zolder, Le Mans, etc).. Not a daily driver only street and track fun!
The buying price (in my country) is the same between the following two cars…. Which one would you buy and why?

1) NEW Lotus Exige S V6 2014
+ Race Pack
+ Trofeo Tyres
+ AC
+ AP racing brake upgrade
+ 4 point racing harness

2) USED Porsche 997 GT3 Clubsport (3.6 MK1 / first generation)

Or forget the two above….pay some more cash and get a used 997 GT3 3.8 MK2 Clubsport…but you could also use this money for other things…and get one of the two above cars wink

Sidenote: 997 GT3 RS is to expensive…so don't need to mention it as an alternative…

The Lotus will be a lot cheaper to run. Consumables cost less and last longer.

I think for me in that situation, it'd be between a 996 GT3RS and the Exige. I don't like the variable ratio steering on the 997.

Personally I can not look at a 996 without feeling sick at my stomach… wink

Good point…! Indeed brakes and tyres will be cheaper and last longer. But will the difference be that big in running costs?

Looking at the crazy prices of 996 GT3 RS's I think the question is would you prefer 3 Exiges or one GT3?

Same thing is also (slightly) happening to the 997 MK2 GT3 RS

How reliable are such upgrade's? I presume the oem engine parts, gearbox and clutch are developted for the standard HP and torque values…and putting more power on them will generate a lot more wear and tear?

God when did that happen? You could get one for about 60k last time I looked.

pretty reliable for the engine I guess, its 'only' 20% up on power, so not highly stressed for a 3.5 V6, don't know how strong those gearboxes are though.

also al depends how you drive it and or were you gonna use it for.

If you buy an Exige then I presume you drive it hard and regularly on a track...

I've been thinking about the exactly the same two cars Franzino. I presume you are the Z4MR owner too?

In the UK I think 997.1 GT3's have risen in price significantly in the last 12 months, so much so that they are out of my budget now. I've been drooling over this today...perfect for your needs I reckon smile

Z4M roadster (modified with AP racing & Bilstein) is my current sun & fun car...

Prices of 997 GT3 keep rising in Europe also...especially the RS versions.
Exige V6 cup is a great car...in a different color wink

I live 2,5 hour driving from the Nurburgring, so it's nice to have a radio in the car... In my opinion it's a small downside that a V6 Cup does not have a radio option like in the GT3 RS. Otherwise V6 Cup looks like a great trackday car!

Hi, wouldn't worry about the radio, Bose noise cancelling ear buds and music playing machine of choice better bet. In my V6S radio is ok up to 60mph but pointless after that, in the Cup the noise from the engine is even greater. If you're about on sept 5/6 there is a few Cup/V6 cars at the Ring for you to chat with.

Is the difference big between a V6 CUP and a normal V6 (with Race Pack, Trofeo Tyres and bigger AP brakes)?
