When pressing my fob today, nothing happened on the car, no flash or anything. The red light on the fob was blinking. I opened the car - no alarm went off. I pressed button again but car wouldn't start. So I had to use the stick thing against the steering column to bypass the immobiliser. Are there any common problems/work arounds to get the alarm working again or is it specialist time? I guess I should at least check fuses first.

The car was parked at an angle on a hill and seems to have been rained on very hard over last weekend (a lot of water drained out the door when I opened it) so not sure if water has got into the system.

Having used the toucher, has the system re-set and the fob's working properly again, or is it still fritzed?

fob does nothing, alarm is seemingly not arming itself either.

Does yours have a boot bag or a carpeted boot?

carpeted, and the drain pipe was blocked. It wasn't overly wet in there though.

car was sloping downhill so bootlid 'gutter' would have drained through the holes near the bulkhead rather than fallen into the boot.

The Cobra unit is under the dash top, so water in the boot shouldn't affect it?

Last time I had this I held both buttons on the fob for 5 seconds and then when the light pressed one of them (can't remember which as it was a couple years). This seemed to re-sync it and then the immobilisers switched off and I was able to start the car - handy as I don't have a touch key!

I've actually bought a Jolly programmer so that I can program my own touch key for the car, but haven't got round to trying it yet.

I was a bit puzzled about the question asking what type of boot liner I had! I'll dig the manual out and have a go at re-syncing and try the other fob too (think the battery is dead in that one) so will have to get a new one first. What type battery do they take (not got fob today but have a chance to pop to Maplin).

On early S1's Lotus gave us a boot bag and the alarm gubbins are situated under it to the lhs.

Ahhh, Cobra immobiliser unit is in the boot by the looks of it?

thing is the inside of the boot wasn't sopping wet and the emergency immobiliser key works fine, so it seems to be the 'wireless' fob communication that has dropped out. I will try re-syncing the keys which seems like a logical first step. Anyone know what batteries they take? Forgot to check last night again.

CR2032 I think, same as a computer 'BIOS battery' as I remember nicking one out of a dead motherboard in the bin at work when I had to resync mine. smile

Try re-synchronisation of the fob with the alarm unit, details can be found here -
